whats the best command and conquer game?

Just got C&C 3 in the sale. How can I set the display to widescreen (1360x768) as only regular 4:3 ratios are showing in the settings. I tried adding "-xres 1360 -yres 768" to the shortcut - which I read on another forum - but then Steam won't launch the game saying the files are corrupt.

Having played all of them for large amounts of time except from C&C4, here would be my list of the best.

1) generals zero hour
2) red alert 2 (expansion is good too)
3) C&C3 (original. the expansion was lame)
4) red alert 1
5) firestorm
6) c&c 1

The whole series is great but I think that, setting aside nostalgia value, zero hour is the best. RA2 is still the best of the "classic" c&c gameplay (construction via sidebar, ore harvesting mechanic etc etc). Generals changed the formula a lot which annoyed some people but its new way of doing things was actually brilliant.

Red alert 2 is still my favourate, generals is also very good "AK47s for everybody!". Playing that on LAN was amazing hearing the little sounds coming from the player opposite. I remember having about 50 nukes and was chasing his last jeep around the map with them. Great games.

opes... just bought C&C4: Tiberian Twilight for £3.79 on Steam... will let you know.

Not sure how far wrong you can go for under £4 though - but we'll see :D

C&C and RA. The music alone makes these two the best.

RA2 was just lame and went a completely different direction. Cartooney graphics, stupid units (Flying Saucers and Squid attacks?) and comedy FMVs. Didn't take itself seriously at all like its predecessors.

Generals/C&C3 great.

RA3. Just an enhanced version of RA2 with even more stupid. Water-walking bears etc.

C&C4 won't even bother playing even if it was free. They swap basebuilding for some crawler mech that does everything so the gameplay is more accessible with a controller. Pff get out.

RA2 was the last one I properly enjoyed. I don't agree with Smokey Deza about RA2, they did go down the route of craziness, but it didn't ruin it for me. C&C games always had comedy FMV's. Budget actors gets you budget cutscenes.

RA3 took it too far though. RA2 was a fine balance.

Anything after RA2, seem over complex too me. Maybe not in gameplay, but there is too much going on, too much clutter.
Look at how good Starcraft II looks, but yet is so simplistic. That is how C&C games used to look to me, but now they are just horrible.

Red Alert 2
Though i love Generals for it's hilarity ("Please can we have some shoes!?"), can't wait for Generals 2.

Well I got cnc4 from the steam sales and I played 1 hour of it, I actually feel sick and really upset how they managed to kill of the tiberium franchise so hideously. But I still think Tiberian Sun and the original cnc95 is the best.

I wouldn't play through that game again if you GAVE me £4.

edit; lol Tute said pretty much the same thing XD

Truly awful awful game, so bad, it got most of EALA laid off I heard.

Is the Yuris revenge add on available for RA2, That was the best c&c conventional game. C&C Renegade is probably my all time favorite game, but I doubt there's the online presence you need to make it fun anymore.
