whats the best/quietest S939 cooler (air)

yup the fins are so thin on the 9500 it is pretty damn light for its dimensions, the fins are also pretty sharp, the back of my girly hands got all cut up while trying to instal it lol.

I've made my mind up on the Si-120 and Akasa UQ 120mm fan to get me 2.8GHz on a 3700+ :)
That's a very nice combo! been using that exact set-up for 2-3 weeks now. :)

[edit] just ordered a YS-TECH FD1238 120mm Fan 125CFM (Decibels - 40.5dBA  ) for some extreme testing, gonna be hooking it up to a fan-controller!

if your low on costs then consider the thermaltake BIG TYPHOON. its the second best cooler for s939 currently available, best being the scythe ninja.

don't just take my word for it, check on the XS forums, those guys really know what they are on about.

i use a big typhoon on a AXP barton and its a top notch cooler

cost isnt an issue, quiteness with low temps are, ive looked at the scythe ninja, but to be honest, its huge!! :p i just dont feel comfortable with all that cooler & fan strapped to my mobo in a tower (i know the mobo will take the weight, but i am just not comfortable with it) the si-120 on the other hand doesnt look anywhere near as big (tall) but still has the same fan size & good reviews (except fot the baseplate not being polished). ;)

Who says the scythe ninja is the *best*?

How can anyone make a statement like that? what's wrong with saying its a damn fine cooler?

I just don't understand how so many people make such *authoritative* statements

And a lot of people @ XS forums are clueless!

Hehe I love forums :)

The Akasa is the quietest at OCUK. The Vantec Stealth are just a flutter louder. :D

i actually have a thermaltake 120mm on my current setup & have just checked the specs - 78 CFM noise @ 21dBA - so i might try this one first, thanks for the info tho :)

Thats cos Scythe Ninja is the best :)

And its got the best name too, the things passive even I ran my X2-4400 passive for the 1st few days fine, obviously not recommended for gaming but ive stuck on a 15db 120mm fan (praticaly unhearable) and its cooling it fine maxxes out at 60-65c after 2-3 hours of a BF2 session even.

Thats the best thing about the heatsink u can just stick on any number of silent 120mm case fans or 7 volt them so there even more silent.

Scythe ninja is half the weight of the Zalman CNPS7700 and almost all its weigh is in the copper base. When i got mine i was amazed at how light it was for its size! The fins use high purity aluminium so have better heat transfer but are slighty easwy to bend. Instalation was a breeze, and because the fins are relatively far apart it means there is very low resistance for any air flowing throught which makes it ver quiet and still cool very well. on my 3700 sandy i have idle temps of 25 or so with highs of 35 (at 1.475v) and sometimes have lows below 20!!

the alloy/copper scythe ninja is 665g and the alloy/copper CNPS7700 is exactly 600g

3N (99.9%) pure copper still has better thermal conductivity than 5N (99.999%) pure aluminum.

Another vote for the G Power pro. Speed adjustable (if you don't install that and just plug it straight in your ears will regret it!) so that you can up it to match the other noise in your system and if going for mega overclock just plug some headphones in and whack the speed up anyway - it really does make a ROAR! when at full chat, and to be honest I see little point in running at anything much above minimum with it, it's pretty good.

My idle temp ranges from 26-27 when in first couple of hours, 29-30 like now when comp has been on all day and warmed the room up. I was going to go Scythe Ninja instead of water cooling or phase change but I don't think it will be much, if any, better than the G POwer pro - Custom PC rate the Artic Freezer 64, G power pro and Scythe ninja, so it's a safe bet with any o them I'd say?
