Whats the first thing you install once built a new system?!

Hi,
No problem, I agree that Paint.Net is a fantastic application and will be even better once Rick (developer) gets layer effects added like they ahve available in Photoshop.

I'll deffo take you up on that virtual pint offer too! - :D

I just may have to owe you a virtual pint.
I have to do a lot of photo editing at work but my bosses won't buy me Photoshop or even Adobe Elements.
I can't install stuff so I have to use it straight out of the directory and GIMP fitted what I wanted.
However I find GIMP quite difficult to use even on the simplest tasks.
I've just installed Paint.net and immediately I'm at home because I've used Photoshop since it was a baby.
I then deleted every parameter to do with Paint.net out of the Registry, moved the Paint.net folder to another hard drive and its running straight out of the folder :)
This program will now save me a lot of time because I often upload photos to my server and work on them from home.

Big thanks

Just thought i'd list the apps i always install to give you some idea rather than the first as most of them aren't in any particular order. Before an installation i always hunt out the latest stable versions of the free software or for anything that i have paid for updates. This is for my windows pc:

Firstly the latest stable drivers for my hardware, followed by:

Kasersky Internet Security - I always tend to install anti-virus/spyware programs first.
Opera - and replace bookmarks, password wand, speed dial settings.
Firefox - tis OK but no match for Opera without adding extensions (not from recent experience i might add)
Pidgin - better than the turd that is WLM.
X-Chat - irc chat program
MS Office
Utorrent
Newsleecher
CCCP Codecs
KMPlayer
Foobar2000
Nero
EAC
CCleaner
Truecrypt
Daemon Tools
Winrar
7-Zip
Defraggler
Acrobat Reader
Then music stuff such as cubase, virtual instruments etc...

:)
JM

OS + Updates
Chipset Driver
Video Drivers
NOD 32
Office
Other Drivers (Track IR, G15, X52, Printer etc)
Photshop
Any other software
Games

The normally, repeat the whole thing 2 months later when I break it again.

I tend to install the AV (Kaspersky) last to avoid any 'conflicts' i.e. if I don't have to go online.

But Firefox, Thunderbird, Office, mobile phone software/utilities, Vista Codec Package, Winamp, Nero & Photoshop are the programs to go on immediately. The rest are installed when needed.
