What's the longest/furthest trip you've taken?

London to South of France... back in 2003.

On the way out there, it didn't stop raining, all the way from Calais to an hour south of Paris, which was my stop off. I was in my Dainese one piece leathers. It was pretty much the same as if i'd jumped into a pool with all my gear on... My stop off included about three hours worth of hair dryer time, trying to get everything dry enough so that i could continue on my journey.

As for the return route.. Well summer 2003, in France was the hottest EVER on on record. Thousands of people died it was that hot.. And there i was, having to make the trip back in a non-perforated one piece Dainese leather suit.

I actually set out at midnight, cos shipping my leathers back via courier was too costly.. I arrived in Paris for my stop off just as the heat started coming up, and it was like a hairdryer in the face...

But even with all the hurdles, it was still an amazing experience, and highly recommended to anyone... Wife was not too impressed, when i told her that my flight was going to go to waste, and that i'd meet her down in the south, with my bike ! lol

In a day, I'd say my two day bike fest in SoCal. Pretty much the best experience i've ever had on a bike on a road.. (track days excluded lol)... Spent 12hrs each day riding non-stop (apart from food and petrol breaks) all around the Californian canyon roads, around the Santa Monica mountains, all around LA, sunset blvd... It was simply amazing.. $150 per day for a CBR600RR....

The longest trip I've done was to Austria on a 2009 Fireblade a couple of years ago. It was a 2500 mile round trip over 6 days, so around 420 miles a day. We decided to avoid France altogether, and drove north into Belgium from Calais and then into Germany. French toll roads are a pain, as I found back in 2007 on a bike trip to Italy. We took it fairly easy, and had plenty of breaks for coffee/toilet breaks/petrol, etc.

Hoping to head up to the Baltic region this year on the S1000RR. That'll be a fairly long trip. I'd love to get as far east as St Petersburg. but I highly doubt we'll have the time to get there. Maybe it's a trip for when I retire...

The key is just to take plenty of breaks when you need them. There's something really nice about sitting on a bike all day, even if its just on a motorway. It's good quality time to yourself to think.
