What's the longest you've gone without formatting?

My works laptop (win 7) is running fine and has been on there about a year. That's probably the most abused computer I have and I've done zero what you would call "maintenance" tasks on it aside from Windows updates (including MSE) and keeping flash player up to date. The only thing I have to keep doing is free up disk space.

august 2009 for my work win 7 laptop.

i do have a box that was built in 2005 but thats cheating as it's our oldest 2003 DC :D

This is my i3 laptop. I did a clean install when first getting it to remove the bloatware, then again after a year. My desktop I also do yearly.

Recently retired an email server - Windows NT4 and I'm pretty sure it was the original factory install. That was about 10 years old and the only time it had ever been off was during a powercut (and because part of me was frightened to reboot it).

i formatted about 6 months ago for first time since installing win7 since it was released and it was hell so do not plan to do it again. literally every thing had not just one issue but as soon i fixed something it made another. this was with everything i swear, even products like xampp which i figured would work fine but the latest thn had one problem, i had to revert back to a previous version but that had another issue on win7. as a result i will never be formatting unless i really have to. pc runs fine at the moment so fingers crossed it stays that way.

WinXP used to reinstall at least every 10-12 months or so due to having too many problems with it but Win7 is very solid so far, install date Dec 2009 and I still see no need to reinstall anything.

Not needed to since Win7 and thats been about a year on this machine.

My Atari TT however has not been reinstalled / formatted since about 1995 I think? Its running Mint. ( Unix type Clone )

my Desktop was installed thirteen months and four days ago, but it needs a reinstall. the horrors of Uni-software still inhabit it's bones

Also, there's something wrong with it where it won't go into screensaver and sometimes it fails to enter sleep mode properly

26/04/2010 for me, with Win7 x64. That was my last hardware update! I'm more interested in uptime, had an Amiga A4000 that managed over 5 years of continual uptime, no reset or reboot!

of course...it was pretty lean on powerdraw....I think!

Of course going THAT long without a restart would also mean that MS own updates will not be installed and therefore, its not only prone to issues and infections itslef, but its also going to let nasties onto the internet because you haven't got it fully secured!

On my main rig, I'm using the same installation of Windows 7 from 2009 (installed in November) and I went through 3 different motherboards (and went from AMD > Intel > AMD) and 3 different graphic cards since then, Windows didn't complain or anything, pretty solid.

On the 20th October it will be one year (Probably the longest in years!)

I'm looking to upgrade the motherboard, cpu & memory though so not sure whether I will reinstall vista or not.
