Whats the most Hardware demanding game to date?

I agree with some here in saying that while Crysis is the most visually advanced games available it is also one of the most poorly coded. Even Crytek themselves have admitted this! Sadly though there is currently nothing that can compare to it.

There are a number of titles coming "soon" that will offer it some real competition to Crysis, but CoD4 certainly is not one of them! As said above, it looks hideous in some places.

As for the most demanding game, while technically it is probably Crysis I think it should be ruled out due to the fact that it is clearly so badly coded. I'm not sure what would be the next demanding game on the list, but there is not many games that can currently bring a high end system to its knees quite like Crysis can.

FSX is a fps nightmare

Supreme commander against AI can get quite system intensive, theres an 81x81km map, 8 players, 7AI, 1000unit cap each. When you play online its mostly gpu limited as no AI.

Age of Conan was quite intensive, I was very impressed at times (but got bored nevertheless and quit) I might try that again like how I go back to wow occasionally.

company of heros gave my rig a work out a while ago.

you should try x3 and quake 4. not exactly harsh but will give you an idea of how good your rig can kick it. obviously crysis and FSX

Lost Planet should really hurt, that direct x10....go for it XD

Maybe you are right, i guess you are a pro game writer then?

Every single EQ2 forum have people complaining how badly it performs, doesn't make use of modern hardware and does crazy things like get the CPU to render shadows.

The gameplay and graphics are far better than any other mmo out there at the moment and its 4 years old.

Not true if you ask me. Guild Wars, AoC and even WoW look and play better and don't perform like a complete dog to do so.

Can I throw a new direction into the mix?

What's the most demanding game to date, considering the hardware available at the time of release??

I dunno if I'm alone in saying so, But I remember when Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines was released, no one on the planet could get it running smooth :D

Crysis :p

Doom 3 was close I think.

sup com is more demanding than crysis

1000 Units per player, 8 players = 8000 units which will lagg you up FUBAR and thats without even zooming in to it,

now thats what i call laggg

yup...minesweeper...i wonder if its dx10 in vista....

As I am totally bored... I've just checked. It uses DX9 :( :p

Everquest 2. If anyone says they can run this at high res on full they are telling porkies.
It's not THAT bad. I play(ed) it at 1920x1080 most settings on high or max with AA. It's CPU limited. It's not coded badly either. It is just coded wrong. If that makes sense! When it was being made Intel and others were boating about 10GHz+ CPUs coming within a few years and things like that. So they made the EQ2 engine to take advantage of a single super high speed processor and not much else. Of course that never came, we got multi core CPUs and it was the GPU that really went all powerful. They just got it the wrong way round and it's now way to late to do anything about it as it would require they rewrite the entire game engine. Maybe for EQ3 :p

On high settings it still does look one of the best MMOs though. It's leagues ahead of WoW and GW imo. It competes with AoC in some places imo. Much better game too!

I've got an 8800gt and Q6600. Tried the Crysis Demo and thought graphics were poor with this card!

with that card and processor, its the best looking game ever made without a doubt, so what, to you, is 'good graphics' ????

Oblivion with some of the hires texture packs is still quite intensive.
Over 2 years old and still looks nice, tempted to go back to it now, if it wasn't such a pain in the bum to install (with that FCOM thing). :)
