Whats the point in life?

Whats all this I hear about Gap Years? Must be expensive, I wont be able to have one my parents will disown me saying I'm wasting my time. If I got a gap year I'd want to cycle europe or something but I'd probs get murdered at night by some creepy russian guy in a forest.

You are looking at it all wrong..

Cycle Europe... and if you get murdered by some creepy Russian, you did what YOU wanted to do in your life and died happy...

Survival is one thing, but I think you're lacking goals, ambitions. Try writing a list of 20 things you'd like to achieve or do before you die. Imagine you have 6 months left. Don't just restrict it to 'go parachuting lol' but think about things that would truly make you see the world in a different, positive light.

I've had an unnerving lifelong feeling of not yet doing something that truly helps others.

Know exactly what you mean. My Jaguar XKR is a 2000 model so only has the 4ltr engine not the 4.2 and my cbr600 for weekend amusment just doesn't have the 180 mph top end of the fireblade. I may have a BSc and a Business Analyst career but it's not a masters degree and i'm not a Senior BA. Coping with a friends with benifits situation sucks too. 26 next year, getting old.

Actually... have a Red Dwarf quote:

"You know, I stand here now and I look at the two of us, and I ask one simple question: Who is the rich man? You, with your fifty-eight houses, your private island in the Bahamas, your multi-billion pound business empire; or me, with . . . with . . . with what, I've got . . . it's you isn't it?"

No hovis but:

It's scary how quickly time flies by when you start work. The last 4 years are a just a blur for me. I suppose you only really appreciate the weekends / holidays and the rest just flows by you.

Anyway.......

Stop moaning, nothing decent in this world is handed to you on a plate. You have to get out there and grab it for yourself.

How to do that is down to you but the majority of people have no idea of where they are going or what they want to do with their lives. Don't stress about having no plan and just seize opportunities as they come.

I disagree, think smaller. Money and status are not the answers to anything. Only the beginning of a long chain of events which ultimately confound someone else's unhappiness.

Stop and smell the roses, tuck your children in at night and run through the field as fast as you can until your eyes become blurry. Then you are a rich man indeed.

Two extremes, find the middle ground and there you will find both meaning and contentment.

Totally agree. Wealth or material possessions do not make a man, but they can add variety and enjoyment.

Why are you taking a gap year if you don't actually want to do anything in it? You must have known months ago that you wanted to do it, so you only have yourself to blame if you've not made any plans or saved up.

Stolen from Abstruse Goose - comic #73, but I haven't linked directly as it contains swearing.[/QUOTE]

Hahaha. I've currently got that as my screensaver. As for Nix, I salute you sir, a man who knows the score. I really can't understand other people that spout Chinese cracker wisdom of 'life is what you make of it' (when they don't even know each individual's circumstances). It really is beyond me.

i would love to cycle europe too.

I don't really know what i want to do yet RAF, Police, Buisness i think at the moment i am to bothered about getting education that i havn't thought about my future at AS levels

I don't have much money, Girlfriend or a job currenlty had my final interview the other day, sot through 4 so hopefully.

But i am really enjoying life and its mostlydue to my mates you have to make life exciting not the other way round:).

Head up

The point of life is to pay tax ... pay more tax ... pay a bit more tax.
In the midst of all that tax you also get a shag or two - but remember to pay the tax while you shag.

not gonna kill myself anytime soon :p

but why is life so godamn ****.. people banging on about the rat race when your a kid doesnt mean anything.. Now im 18 i know whatthey mean. I finish me a2s in 1 month, then if i pass ive got a gap year. No job, no gf, no money, no car.. If i do get a job I dont wanna be in a dead end piece of crap for the rest of my life..

We werent meant to die via natural causes, ie old age etc...
but our ancestors will be coming soon.

youre 18.

you dont want or need a girlfriend at your age. sleep around. youre supposed to.
you dont need a job, money or a car. go to uni! - they just give you money its brilliant. and go to uni in a town with decent public transport or where you can walk.

your life isnt meant to start for a few years yet, get youself heavily indebted at uni but have a bloody good time doing it. then in 3 years you can make a thread about how your life is screwed. but the 3 years in the meantime will be the best of your life. fact.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. Maybe?

And all you need for that is a dodgy Austrian accent, a sword and some bulging biceps.

salami1212: if at 18 you don't know what you want to do with your life then it's hardly the end of the World, some people never work out exactly what they want to do so the best thing you can do is to give it a fair go. Sometimes life isn't fun but doing a job that you don't like should at least tell you that it isn't something you want to continue doing so you can then try something else and you've still got plenty of time to try more and see what you do want to do.

I think I'll paraphrase Oscar Wilde

"we may all be laying in the gutter, but some of us are looking up at the stars"

Life's what you make it tbh. Work to live, thats what i do, and enjoy your free time.
