Hi chaps

This starts earlier in the year, basically my machine would fully boot up. It turned out to be the graphics cards, well I belive as I replaced the cheap graphics card to a r9 280x and the problems was solved! So thought nothing of it other than don't buy cheap parts

Fast forward to last month.
My asrock 990fx extreme 4 board started making 5beeps on start up and showing d6 error code on the debug.
I rma'd the card as I presumed it would be this as it was the problem last time.
I get the card back this morning along with a new case and same problem.

Now although the card wasn't replaced with a new one, I presume it was either fixed or nothing was wrong with it even though it went back to gigabyte for them to sort out.

Now the graphics card needs 600w and I have a 600w cooler master psu so could this be the problem, but I can't see it as the card and system has worked fine for 6months without a problem.

Other than this I can only think the board is at fault (owned it for 2 years)
I've heard pretty rubbish things about asrock aswell and the d6 error that's showing points towards the graphics card not being found.
I've tried different slots, with/ without the card, I've unplug all unnecessary parts to try and lower the wattage but to no avail!

This is twice in a year it's happened and I'm lost so any help would be good, do I look into getting a new mobo? I'm pretty confident the card is fine as overclokers and gigabyte wouldn't send it back if it didn't work.

I haven't got any spare parts such as a mobo to try the card and other parts in, and I'm skint since I've just bought the case.

The spec is in my sig but with a 280 r9

Enervating I want to upgrade to a corsair 1000w psu and a better mobo but I want to find the problem instead of just renewing a lot of parts

Thanks

Are you running the latest bios on your motherboard, if not it may be worth installing that. A 600w PSU should be capable of running that card. Coolermaster PSUs are usually ok but arent really the best brand ever so something may have gone wrong with it.

If you are replacing it a 1000w unit would be a waste unless you plan on running multiple gpus. Something like a 750w or even a 650w superflower should be plenty.

I assume you have checked your 8/6pin power cables are plugged in to the gpu too as they can be easy to forget (I know it wouldn't have run before if this was the case but just in case).

How would I check the latest bios m? It dosent even let get to the bios screen?
I haven't updated the bios ever so maybe it is that??

The reason I wanted a 1000w psu was to make sure it wasn't running anywhere near its limit, as the current 600w psu I have must be working hard. I do oy have 1ssd and 1hdd, 3x 140mm case fans

I know everyone say check the gpu power, and yeah that in too, the 3 fans are spinning on the gpu, it's like a PCI connection issue.

I'm asking about if any of my mates will let me try a gpu swap with them to eliminate done things.

What would removing a ram stick do? I will try it by all means but I'm curious as the debug is pointing me towards a

Oops accidentally posted without finishing ^^^^^

D6 error means - no console output devices are found.

How would I update the bios if I can even get a video signal at all??

You really cant do jack without another gfx card at this point? Can a mate lend you one for 30 mins ?

I replaced the cheap graphics card to a r9 280x and the problems was solved!

Is it in the cupboard still ? :)

It might be still in the cupboard but I'm sure it was dead, as it was showing same problems as now, so I bought the r9 and it worked (I wanted a good gpu anyway ) the old gpu was a £30 one just to watch films on.

But if it is the gpu why has over clockers sent it back? It's still under warranty? Il be ringing them up today anyway so I can confirm this later

I will persuade my mate to lend me his or il have to buy another £30 gpu for now as emergency.

Ina different topic of love to spend some good money on my machine and maybe even go Intel, but it's a shame I can't ATM.
Short term il solve the problem, upgrade the mobo and psu and use the old parts to build a htpc.
I do wish I bought a savertooth or crosshairs v or ud5 instead of the corsair 750d

There is a computer shop up The road I might take my gpu in to try it out, and buy a cheap card too

Just been on the local computer shops website, il have to buy a £30 gpu which I ain't bothered about ATM it still has hdmi so that will do.
This way I can update the bios and see if the problem lies with the board and/ gpu then I've only spent £30

The gpu will be going back if it is the problem, if it's the board I guess il either have an excuse to buy a better board or be out of action until I can get one sorted although the girlfriend might not be happy me spending all this money at Xmas on my self hahaha

Thanks dude
It's a pain in a rear!

Btw so to update the bios (providing I get a gpu working)
Is literally the case of flash drive and entering the bios and updating from that, like the instructions in the asrock website?

Seems too easy to me, I will try it though, as my board is 2year old without an update so it's probably wise I do it.

Il let you's know how I get one though

I had a similar problem iwith an ASrock board.. turned out the PCI express lane died.. switched the card into anothe pci lane and worked.. worth a try before going out to get a new gfx card

Right update time!

Took to a local independent shop, and he got a display straight away on my r9! So it's not that, I've swapped some ram around and used single sticks etc and still nothing. So this has narrowed it down to either mobo or psu

The mobo is common for this error with no exact fix so this could be it, it may of happened due to a suspected power surge with no protector. Although I now have one

So I guess it's more investigation

And I've tried the first and second PCI slots
Il try the 3rd just to be sure but I'm not banking on it

Just tried the last PCI slot and nothing! So the the PCI slots much be knackered

Guess it's a new board really. So il get looking

It's a cooler master 600w
I don't know the exact model, but I've had no bother with it so far, it's only got 1 gpu cable
(6+2 6+2)

I have read a few things that the board is at fault with the d6 error, just didn't know for sure.
The psu work every other component fine, so Im guessing it's a mobo issue, if not il sell it lol

d6 The VGA could not be recognized. Please clear CMOS and try re-installing the VGA card. If the problem still exists, please try installing the VGA card in other slots or use other VGA cards.

That's the d6 message. Did you clear the cmos ? Guess anythings worth a try before outlaying any cash

Yeah mate, the card has been tried in all 3 slots, the cmos has been cleared several times, ram has been swapped over and single stick used, the small battery has been removed and put back in, the graphics card has been checked at the local shop and it works.

I started a thread in the mobo section, and have found a decent board for £70 that will meet my needs, and is cheaper than I was going to spend.

I guess il try the cals again tomorrow

What is the actual model of your psu? Coolermaster have churned out some garbage psu's over the years that can't deliver all the power on the 12v rail.
