About 5 minutes :D

Was offered a job as returns manager at a manchester based pc parts supplier. When i got there i found that the guy ( the boss ) had completely lied about the whole returns setup. In fact there was literally no returns dept there, just a huge pile of boxes ( rma's) and no one dealing with them.

They way it worked was simple... the sales staff would fob the customer off for as long as possible and then eventually when they threatened legal action they would work out a weighted refund!.. in the mean while a chimp would be testing 5 or 6 items a day, yes a DAY, and stuff that worked got sold at Bowlers computer fair at the weekend and the duff stuff either got chucked or sold at other computer fairs out of the back of a hired van!

I told him to shove it and walked out to the sound of applause from the warehouse lads! :D

Homebase, 4 days and I quit.
The personnel manager kept barking orders at me, which weren't my job, then complaining I wasn't doing my job to.
So I had a rant at her, spat on the floor and walked out.

Ahh well, the pay was rubbish anyway.

The pay isn't that bad, well I'm on £6.31 an hour...
I've lasted 3 years so far.

Before I started here, I didnt think I would get the job, I went and started training with a company called care knights, who sell scooters, bath and stair lift, and I would have been Cold Calling A load of OAPs all day (blergh I hear you say) I was there 3 days... they got rid of us all because they decided to change the pay situation from weekly to monthly, and because we kicked a stink up over it they gave us £50 and sent us packing...

Luckily on the way home I had a call from my now manager here, and i've been here 9 months now.

2 hours at a helpdesk role known locally as 24 Hell.
I've got a mate who is still there.
That place is infamous!

I left a job at a fastfood restaurant after four hours when I was a teenager.

About three shifts for Burger King when I was 16. At the time we only got paid the hours we worked and when it was quiet we were told to "clock off" so we didn't get paid. The last Sunday I only got paid for two hours when I was there for six. A week after I left a MacDonalds employee won her court case that said it was illegal so a lot of staff got sacked in my old place.

The worst thing was having to get up at 5 AM on a Sunday morning to get into town for a 7 AM start to 2 PM finish. We got a couple of bus loads of Chinese tourists the first Sunday morning I was there about 7:30 AM, which was fun.

It's not surprising that people don't view the jobs highly. ;)

When we first moved out here, our pool cleaner happened to mention that his wife's place were looking for someone to help support their internal network. I went along for an interview, they showed me around, it all went swimmingly. First day I turn up, they plonk me in front of a call-center screen and start telling me to cold call companies in the UK, selling mobile phone contracts.

I quit after the second day when it became obvious there would be little support and a lot of cold calling involved.

i worked for BK for 2 years while in college, i had totally the opposite experience. my boss was being screwed over by the area manager and it cost him his marriage. he bascially let us do what we wanted, i would be constantly eating all day, he paid a selected few of us he liked more than the rest and he would skim the tills for a "euro fund" in which all the staff would go to the pub and watch the footie and drink free beer. we constantly had food fights when it shut, the mustard and pickle was a killer, it never came out the uniform. we used to go out back and have fat fights and chuck frozen food over the building into the packed high street....ah the memories :D

Another one here for 24hell. Worst place I have ever worked, ended up getting the sack after 3 months for not selling enough warranties. Odd I thought as I was under the impression my job was tech support

One of my colleagues got sacked for stealing bags of burgers and putting them into the bins for pickup later by her friend. One of the shifts earlier in the week I left had the fun job of reporting a junkie shooting up in the toilets.

2 years.

First and only job at my beloved ASDA: fair pay, easy work, great manager and cool work mates. If I work night shifts I get quite a lot of monies as well which is alright. :)

Oh sugar I forgot the job I went to do about 3 months ago, turned up and they showed me what I would be doing for about 30 minutes - boring but doable. I get a call about 5 minutes after leaving and they said the next day the wanted me to do a 12 hour shift of a totally different job and I'd have to start at 6am the next day. I didn't like it so politely declined and quit.

I lasted 4 hours at GAME, started at 9 went for lunch at 1 and never went back. Hated it.

What was so bad about it? I wouldn't mind working there. :o

Hmm, 1.5 years as a "news deliever". £15 a week for a round of 25-27 houses. Started when i had just turned 16 and worked 2 Xmases (sp?) to get the tips...around £120. \o/

The pay was shocking, around £4.90 starting wage, think it went up to £5.20 or something eventually. Hated the idiot supervisor that worked at the shop too, little spotty **** on a power trip.

Got a job soon after in Sainsburys doing part time nightshift for £7.50ish and £10odd per hour on a sat night. Used to do alternate friday and saturday nights while i was at uni, it was perfect for me.

1.5 hours doing the gardens for some wealthy couple, I was supposed to do a day a week at 12pph for them, their existing gardener didn't like me being there (he didn't know I was on nearly 2x his wage :) ) but they were all a bunch of jackasses and I phoned them up and said I wasn't going back.
Reminds me of mine... was about 14 and worked as a gardener for some posh couple. She used to pick me up in her car and drive me to where they lived - but she wouldn't drive on to the housing estate where I grew up so I used to have to walk to the edge of it. Don't think she wanted to be seen there by any of their snooty friends who may be driving past.

Don't think the husband was porking her any longer and I'm pretty sure he thought I was doing the dirty deed. Apart from the fact she was old and ugly, her perfume used to really stink too... 3 good reasons why I'd not have done it.

Can't remember how long I kept the gardening job but it was no more than a few days as I got fired when I'd pulled out all the flowers thinking they were weeds.

Worked in an electronics store in Nantwich for 1.5 days, I was supposed to be the techie of the store and build pc's to spec but I was made to cut Ethernet cables to people’s orders. Walked out at lunchtime leaving a nice note on the owner’s desk.
