What's with all the suspensions?

Aye, a bit more honesty would go a long way.

There was a thread about some scumbag that killed his two week old baby because it interrupted his gaming session, not every response was along the lines of RIP etc. One was something like headshot, one asked was he playing Mortal Kombat, stuff like that.

Now I totally agree that it's up to the dons to decide if they even want the thread representing their site once it goes in that direction, just I have to concede it's also their right to suspend whoever they feel has crossed the line. But I didn't feel any of the posts crossed line into genuinely laughing at a baby being murdered (not up to the point I saw anayway), and a couple that were suspended didn't make light of it in any way, but there you go.

Obviously a story about the killing of a two week old baby is truly horrific, but I think last night a few people simply ran into a slightly sensitive don that wasn't happy accepting posts that didn't relflect the horrific nature of the incident.

Were they suspended because of that thread?

If so they should be perma'd sick ****'s. You'd have to be mentally deranged to find any comical effects in such a brutal incident.

Was going to post in there stating the above, but thought better of it considering the kind of attidudes displayed in there.

Normally I can appreciate the odd joke on anything, (you don't laugh, you cry) but the stuff in that thread just felt plain unnecessary and nasty.

There's a lot the mods do let slide these days compared to a few years ago and people seem to be getting too comfortable with that and tried to push the boundaries quite a bit in that instance.

You dance with the devil you can't QQ when you get burned :p

Given some of the inappropriate personal insults that get bandied about and routinely ignored or even deemed acceptable in at least one case, I find it all rather ironic!!!

I too have noticed that moderating with regards to personal insults has gotten a little slack. That's a seperate issue though. As these suspensions are warranted and, for once, was the work of a good moderating team.

Irreverence is a valid part of comedy.....just ask Frankie Boyle!!!
This, totally.

Humour has always been used a defence mechanism, and always will.

Obviously OcUK has the right to simply not want any such comments on their site, but this is where deleting the thread is enough imo, I don't see what extra banning achieves? Especially as there are members banned that made no such 'disgusting' comment ;).

doofer - suspended
fluttershy - suspended
jsmoke - suspended
theophany - suspended
Ahleckz - suspended
naf8000 - suspended
amnesia - suspended
bary h - suspended
Jonny ///M - suspended

A very pleasing list.

The only thing that surprises me is that it took the dons so long to deal with that thread.

It was a Friday night and most of those names were either drunk or drugged up. That's the only reason/excuse someone could have to post such vile stuff.

Not sure Franky Boyle's material is suitable for a "family friendly" forum though.

That isn't the point, the point is that if the thread is not suitable for a family forum then remove the thread or the posts themselves....banning people for having an irreverent or weird sense of humour seems a little OTT when compared to some of the personal attacks that are let slide.

It's not possible to check every post in every thread.

If there are posts you have a complaint about then you're free to report them using the RTM function.

he should know better.

EDIT: Shayper too.
You don't know what he posted do you.

He asked what game he was playing....... instaban worthy yeah??

Or maybe just ask exactly what he means before deciding if he's a disgusting **** that deserves banning and stoning ;).

The only name there that surprises me is Zefan. Overall I was expecting some sort of collateral but with most of the names there I am not shocked at all :)

Indeed, and on at least one occasion some very personal remarks were deemed perfectly acceptable by the mod who received the RTM's....presumably because the subject matter was something they had a vested opinion on or for some other reason, but as personal attacks on members are specifically prohibited I find it ironic that on occasion they are ignored or deemed ok for some reason.

The point stands.

No the thread was suitable, the comments were unsuitable, hence why people were deservedly suspended. Laughing at how a child was brutaly murdered, is not suitable for this forum and everyone knows this, hence the suspensions for breaking the rules.

Are you still upset over the Fox thread comment, by myself?
