Rather out of the blue phone call caused me to think long and hard about this.

For me I decided that 50 miles each way and/or 1 hour each way was a maximum.

What limit would you set on your daily commute in both distance and time?

To be honest mate, depends what the pay is! I drove 130 miles (2 hours ish) everyday for 3 months for £400 a day (before tax). I now drive 20 miles everyday for a lot less...

Thats the reason I haven't said no to this straight away. 80 miles each way at around and 1hr 29mins though

Would have to balance out how much extra I'd see in my bank account at the end of each month against how long it would take to save up to move house (average figure is around £5k to £6k these days I believe). Luckily Jane wouldn't be heart broken at the idea. Would probably need a new car too though = ££££

go 15mins and i think thats too much :p Think i got it from the old man he always moved within 5mins of where he worked

get yourself a modern diesel (HDi xsara is probably the cheapest way into one of these) and sit at a nice steady 70. you'll see great economy, it'll be cheaper than you think...

20 or so I would think. More than that and the mileage starts to seriously devalue your car or dictate you must buy a godawfully boring diesel thing.

Its more the time to be honest. My current daily commute is 5 minutes each way and I have just enough free time to do what I want. I just can't imagine knocking near enough 3 hours out of my day

In my current car (which isn't that economical at motorway speeds) it would only be around £16 to £18 a day. Although I guess thats an extra £320 a month that wouldn't be going into the move fund. Can't really see the figures adding up to make it worthwhile. Shame as it could have been the start of a career rather than a job like I'm in now.

Having commuted for a long time with 80 mins each way (via trains), I'd now say that an hour would be my preferred target.
Have to say, that I don't mind a commute of 30 mins plus. What I mean by that is that I find the train journey home to be a nice time to take it easy, read a book and forget about work for a while, meaning that by the time I do get home, I'm fully chilled.

It depends on how important the thing to do is, the most I ever did on a regular basis was about 100 miles taking about 3 hours in the morning in my beasty Ka.

Normally around an hour and a bit though to get to most places (usually only about 20 miles or less away :( )

It currently takes me around 1 hour to do 33 miles and I wouldn't like it to be any longer.

WTF! I travel 79.2 miles in 1h 15. I would rather be moving all the time than spending 1h 15 to travel 14 miles for a similar job across the other side of town.

45mins MAX.

Used to work in east grinstead which was a 45/hour commute everyday for work, that was just too much.

Now its 25mins/10miles to hassacks :D

Fully agree, even driving, work is the last thing I'm thinking about when I get home. Flexi time helps as I avoid all the n0bs who cant drive at rush hour

I do 30 odd miles in 35 mins for my current commute, but i also work from home and have to travel to clients so its not so clear cut for me, as long as i keep moving i can stomach an hour no problems, its when its stop start driving that i get annoyed.

Currently 15 minutes / 8 ish miles to work. Most days do it 4 times, not fun with short runs returning 18 MPG :(

Yeah but for 16 miles a day its nothing, unless you are on something silly like 8k a year.
