Whats you max acceptable commute time/distance?

Yeah but for 16 miles a day its nothing, unless you are on something silly like 8k a year.

Yeah it's not bank breaking really, just a shock coming from my old car, where 45mpg could be achieved however you were driving it :D

Yeah! depressing i know, something wrong perhaps? It is an auto though... Any idea what it should be getting?

Ah, sounds about right from an auto. I get 21-22 from my manual around town.

About to start a placement for a year which will entail a 9 mile run each way so about 18 miles per day which will take roughly 20mins each way depending on traffic :)

I've travelled back and forward for a part time job there before and I think 20mins is fine for travelling, although you need to take into consideration start and finish times as they will affect your decision. I can start anytime from 7:30 to 9:30 at my placement which affects the traffic on the road and decreases the travel time :) The 9 mile stretch (country roads) can be done in 9-10mins but that is pushing it :o A much more reasonable 15mins when it's quiet and about 25mins when it's busy :)

I travel to university via car and metro which takes 30mins by car and then 20mins by metro which is a bit of a chew because of the 2 modes of transport. It's doable but I'd rather do 50mins in the car than split it, parking and traffic sway my decision to do the latter.

Would tolerate up to about an hour each way, dependant on the pay. I have done a commute of an hour and a half each way before and I wouldn't like to do it again (I knew that was short term when I agreed to it).

I am quite happy just now, current commute is about 6 mins (4 miles). It's a straight road and first three miles are twisty and fun while the last mile is straight dual carrigeway. There are no traffic lights or cameras and a nice costal view most of the way.

Although this sounds great it is not good for the car as most days it has not heated up to normal by the time I get there, which is a good excuse to go for a long drive for an Italian tune up at the weekend ;)

Another it all depends on the pay person here :)

I used to work in Southend on Sea years ago which used to take around 2 hours each way from NW London, did that for a year and a half.

Worked in Bracknell and then later at Winnersh, took around 1.5 hours each way but 5 hours on a bad day if the M4 had probs, did this for 2 years +

Used to also work in Edinburgh, I'd fly out on the Monday and fly back on Friday, did this for 3+ years.

Currently it takes me 45-60 mins to get to my place of work and also work from home these days more and more, it's an age thing, I love cars and I love driving but over the last few years if I can get away with I always seem to opt for working from home. :D

i live in east london and work in west london, its about 20 or so miles but takes me about an an hour & 15 mins to 1.5 hours usually each way. On a bad day closer to 2 hours or over. If i could get a good job closer to home then i would.
Can't move house, as i own my own house and the cost of selling and buying a new place and the hassle of it, rules it out.

Takes me up to an hour at the mo depending on traffic.

Would depend on the £££ on what I would be prepared to do :)

My commute is almost always 1 hr 15 minutes each way, with perfect timing. Usually any delays won't add more than 5-10 minutes on to any one journey. Except Monday before last, where it took me 5 hours to get home :(

Edit: Work in London, and it's a combination of driving (10 minutes), train (40 minutes), walking (20 mins) and waiting (5 mins) :)

My trip usually takes somewhere between 1 hour 15 mins - 30 mins depending on traffic. Thats driving and walking or park and ride depending on how lazy I feel :)

20 or so I would think. More than that and the mileage starts to seriously devalue your car or dictate you must buy a godawfully boring diesel thing.

Or buy an above mileage bargain barge which has already depreciated loads and can take the use. I'm pretty sure that my 200mile a week commute has little effect on the value of my car. Its already got 248K on the clock :D

My current commute is 6 miles each way, about 15-20 minutes due to traffic and dawdling Leicestershire bell ends who can't drive.

I'd go further for significantly higher pay.

20 mins at the moment.. but im a electrician and have to turn up on site.. so can go from 5 mins to anywhere around 45mins... and that 45mins was for 15miles!!! A1 on a moring can be a nightmare

It certainly can be! Although some days you'll just fly through the bit thats normally busy  Just hope they hurry up and finish the bridge on the 50 zone beside the A19 turn off :o

Wouldn't like to be driving much longer than half an hour, unless it was twisties all the way and no traffic:p I'm lucky with my current situation, in that I have the choice of either a 2-3 min drive or 25 min walk.

I've walked to work all this week, probably saved a few pennies:)
