Had a search and couldn't see anything but I think it was DP said soemthing about a Ricoh SLR he had in another thread that got me wondering were we all started.

Started off with a Ricoh FF9 35mm point & shoot maybe about late 80's, early 90's. I remember it got good reviews and I wanted something small as it would be used for travelling. It travelled thousands of miles with me and took tons of photos then I gave it to my mum as she was using the cheap disposable film cameras.

First digital was Canon G3 which I think I got early 2003. Think it was a toss up between it and one of the Nikon Coolpix range, possibly the 4500 or something. Still have it somewhere unless my wife has lost it but it was a pretty decent little camera.

Next up was my 20D dslr purchase 2004/05 which I wanted as the G3 could be a bit slow to focus at times depending on the nature of the subject. Went the Canon route as I had flash etc.. from using the G3. Fantastic camera which still impresses me although I fancy an upgrade as I'd like something which I could bump the ISO up a bit with worrying too much about how noisy the image is. Still use the 20D, didn't actually realise I've had it for so long.

What about you lot, where did it all start off for you?

I was trying to remember this too, after reading that thread. All I can remember is the third camera I had was a 35mm film camera, and I spent over £20 on film 20 years ago when on holiday, and my mum went mad at me :D I never got them developed either, because she threw them out!

I've played with polaroids, and other weird film cameras, but oddly they all disappeared, so I assume they got thrown out at some point. I doubt I'll ever find out what they were now :(

My first DSLR was the 300D, then the 30D and currently the 60D. Next I want full frame, but not sure whether to go for the 5Dmk3 when it drops a bit, or wait for the rumoured budget version from Canon. It all depends on what/when it comes out. I'll give it about a year and see what prices are.

Excluding many Point and shoots (I went through them like disposables, kept breaking them on drunken night outs), 400D, 40D then now a 7D.

If I continue to enjoy, will likely go FF later on

I started off with one of those 35mm cameras they used to make for kids. They were plastic things, really basic with a viewfinder that you pull into place on top, a shutter button and a winder. The ones I used were themed like monsters and I know I had more than one, I can't remember if they were given away from something. Here is one gem I took with it:

Classic finger in shot, I was 6 though!

When I got a bit older, my Mum gave me her Kodak Disc Film camera, I don't think it was a Kodak model though, I can't remember who it was by. I used that for a long time, but the quality of prints wasn't very good.

When I got older still my Mum gave me a 35mm compact as she had just bought an Advantix camera. I then seem to remember using an Advantix camera of my own for a while, which I think might have been a hand me down again.

At Uni I started using Nikon 35mm SLRs which they loaned out. I bought myself a Nikon Coolpix digital camera which even given the 2.1 mega pixel was never very good.

My parents then bought me a Pentax 35mm SLR kit which included a standard and telephoto zoom as a Xmas present. I found that a bit odd to begin with, because it obviously used a digital system to control shutter speed and aperture. The Nikon SLRs at Uni were old school manual with a dial for shutter speed and you adjusted the aperture on the lens.

With no longer having access to a darkroom and digital becoming more prevalent, I decided in 2006 to buy a Canon 350D while I was living in Canada as Digital SLRs were finally a bit more affordable.

I bought a Sony digital compact in 2007, though I rarely use that these days as my iPhone has filled that gap.

I bought a Canon 7D in 2009 and started spending some serious money on lenses and other kit. (I'd add that I found the receipt for my 350D recently and it was more expensive than the 7D!)

In 2011 I made the decision that as I work Freelance anyway, I would like to start making some money through Photography as a second job between projects.

I'm currently waiting on a 5D mkiii in the post, though I will still be using the 7D for its reach.

Canon 20D
Pentax WPi
Casio EX-FH1 (still have this)

Casio EX-FH100 (still have this)
Canon 600D (to fix my DSLR withdrawal symptoms)

@ElDude - lol at your mum going mad and throwing your films out. :)

Some nice cameras in the last few posts there. Canon seems to have done well out of the posts so far, the majority being their gear.

In order

Nikon Coolpix E4300
Kodak C613
Canon Ixus 100 IS
Canon 550D
Canon 60D

And now I am playing with some of my Dad's old film cameras including the OM1 and OM2 :)

This will age me !!!!
Yashica Minister III. 35mm range finder, beautifully made classic camera
Praktica LTL3. First SLR.... Had M42 screw thread lenses.
Minolta X300. One of the best, brightest view finders ever.... Aperture priority/manual
Then added a used Minolta X700 as a second body.... Used Tamron adaptall II mount lenses, including a 500 Mirror lens.

Then bought into my dream system, since seeing one when I was much younger, a Contax...
Blew a 1200 quid on a new RX with 50mm F1.8 lens....... Been hooked ever since.
Added various used Contax prime lenses, 18, 25, 85, 135 and 80-200.

Eventually got into the world of auto focus..... With a Nikon F80, which was great camera, would do anything.
This lead to the first DSLR, a Nikon D70, which my daughter now uses. The F80 went, and kept the Contax for film, added a 159 body.

Few years roll by, wanted to push the digital side, really liked the Nikon controls and use, but wanted Full Frame.... Was only one choice.... Canon 5D mk1....
Also decided to swap to the Contax N system, so after around twenty years the RX and lenses were auctioned off....

Since then have added the Contax N Digital, the world first FF DSLR..... And still collecting lenses. It's "only" 6meg, tricky to use as it's very limited ISO, but gives such satisfaction when you get it right..... And has proper controls, with knobs and dials :)

Along the way picked up a used Canon 400D for travel and holidays, and an on EOS3 which I used once ( was 20 quid lol )

So current kit stands at
Canon 5D mk1
17-40L, 24-105L, 50mm F1.4, 75-300 IS
Canon 400D Sigma 17-85
EOS3

Contax N1
Contax N Digital
Contax Carl Zeiss 17-35, 24-85, 100 Macro, 70-200 and 70-300.

Hmmm....

Kodak Brownie 127 35mm that my Dad gave to me when I was little.
Halina 35mm point and shoot thing
Olympus AZ200 superzoom which I thought was the business (£200 at the time)

Then a long time without a camera before entering the digital age about 8 years ago.

Casio QVR40
Fuji S6500fd (still got this one)
Nikon D7000 (have owned since October 2011)

You win the lottery or something? :D

haha, that's over a 6 year period! I don't own the 350d or 30d any more but have the rest for wedding photography (my wife uses them as well, in fact the mk3 and mk2 are more hers than mine) and the M9 for personal stuff and a bit of wedding if it lends itself to the wedding I'm shooting.

The M6 was my granddads so it found its way over to me when he passed away.

Canon G7, still around
Nikon D80, got stolen
Fuji S5 Pro, still in use
Nikon F3HP, occasionally used
Canon Canonet QL17 GIII, gave to my brother
Konica Hexar AF, still in use
Rolleiflex 3.5B, still in use
Leica M4, still in use
Ricoh GRDIII, still in use

The last four are what I shoot the most with nowadays, they go with me when I travel too.

1996 - Casio QV-10a
1998 - Fuji MX700
1999 - Fuji 1.3mp thing
2001 - Fuji 2900Zoom
2002 - Fuji S602Z
2003 - Fuji S2 Pro
2005 - Fuji S3 Pro
2008 - Nikon D700
2012 - Nikon D800

If Fuji had continued to make F mount DSLRs Id have stuck by them, colours from S3 have yet to be beaten IMHO
