Whats your favourite Indian dish?

A favourite meal from my local Indian takeaway would be:-

Chicken Tikka starter
Poppadoms
Lamb Madras
Bombay potatoe
Special fried rice
Garlic naan

Lovely :)

I encourage you all to make these at home. Being of Indian decent (my parents emigrated to this country from India) I have eaten mainly Indian dishes as my main meals (mainly dinner) throughout my life. There is an amazing difference in quality, and selection between home made dishes and restaurant dishes. I find home made dishes are far, far superior to restaurant dishes.

I might make a FAQ with home made Indian recipes. Hopefully it'll teach you to make amazing vegetarian and meat dishes. It will also teach you how to make roti. I'm mainly familiar with dishes from the northern-western and mid regions of India.

Sounds like a plan! Please do :)

Looking good apart from that rice. Was that rice the sweet one?

Vegetable Vindaloo
Mushroom Rice
Chili Cheese Naan
Saag Aloo

Pretty much every time at a couple of my locals :)

Chicken Madras / Vindaloo depending on how i'm feeling.

Usually have one of the above, garlic nan / garlic & cheese nan and chips. I like rice but it just fills me up way too quick. :(

MAKE IT AT HOME!
Making a decent indian meal can take hours and without the tandoor and stuff, it's not the same as a decent, traditional indian place (and yes, they do exist!)

I do love anything with okra in it. I never really order a favourite thing, always try and have something new/ that I haven't had in a while. Or just whatever looks good on the night.

Lamb Naga, vindaloo hot with extra green birdseye chillies.

Plain boiled rice, two chapatis, and a large garlic and coriander nan.

Not for the feint hearted, but anything else doesn't quite do it.

BTW, as a take away, I get dinner and lunch out of this ;)

My girlfriend is a seriously fussy eater and has the diet of a 5 year old. She wants to try some indian food so I need to pick something super mild to get her started. Any recommendations other than Korma or Tikka Masala?

makhani? or ask for a mild bhuna etc..?

I like the lassi drinks, Kasmir in bradford does them and curries from the kashmere region, so no vindaloo's or masal-they are english dishes(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lassithey're english dishes)

E: Tandori roti bread.
