What's your job?

Sit at my desk eating biscuits, waiting for problems. Some people call it an IT ops technician :D

I've got 9 years experience at it now, so most of the time I find it easy. But as it's in defence I do get involved in.... other things, which keeps it interesting.
This is my friend! I'm both a little envious but at the same time - not at all, when he has a bad day - he has a bad day. 9hr+ conference calls are not worth it to me!
 
I brainwash children to accept a socialist/marxist future.

The pay isn't great, the hours can be long, but the holidays are pretty good.
 
QA Director for a financial tech company.

Hiring, firing, establishing processes in line with industry best practices. Coding automated test solutions using C# and Java.

100% working from home.

I love it.

Pros

Engineering (expensive toys for very rich people)

Cons

Working with non enginners.
 
Technology Manager for TKMaxx (TJXE)

I am responsible for the EU/APAC data centres

Pro's
- I love me job
- I like the company culture
- The pay/bonus/shares are great
- I get to travel to the US business class 3 times a year (Pre COVID)
- Report out to Ohio where my boss is

Con's
- I live in Letchworth and the headoffice is Watford so the drive can be pants but I've been remote for months which is great for work/family balance
 
I'm an electric and gas engineer for EDF mainline service.

I love my job every day is different constantly changing.

Pros.
Very day is different challenging

Cons
I work for a huge company that has no idea what they actually want to achieve :eek:

Can move around country

Cons
Not exciting
OK wage
I only do it because I can. I fell into IT because my degree was a poor choice .

I don't think I actually belong in IT. But no idea what else I'd do.
 
Block storage SME and Linux Sysadmin.

Pros: stable and a good wage. Get to see lots of different technologies.

Cons:Stuck in progression, I deal with a lot of proprietary technologies, no room for internal progression.

Con’s:
A little old fashioned in some ways
Silos make navigation difficult sometimes
Slow to embrace newer technologies
 
Corrupt third world leader.

Pros:
Steady stream of hotties.
Oddly long Mercedes.
Occasional use of tanks.

Cons:
Generally considered a little stupid.
Neighbours don't like it when I use aforementioned tank.
High chance of a brutal death.

Pros

Loads of scope for other architecture work (solutions +business )
Flexible working
Not really managed in the sense i have bits i need to do and j do them, no one hassling me
Finish at 12 on Fridays
Pre covid I could walk to work, its literally 5 minutes walk


Cons
I'm new to the job ( was a dba) so still learning, compared to the team I'm the one with little experience compared to being a dba where I was experienced.
Working from home in a role that does benefit from face to face meetings is challenging, although back to normal in 2022for me.
I do spend a lot of time on calls, sometimes can spend 8 hours a day on calls
