What's your minimum car spec?

What's this hill start nonesense? If you have an automatic transmission, the car is held on hills until you press the accelerator?
On my Manual the hill start assist holds the car for 3 seconds to give you time to move your foot from the brake pedal to the clutch pedal..

Do you also have a 'steering wheel' and 'some seats' on your minimum spec list too? :D

I KNEW it would be you who will quote me.

And you will no doubt reply with "if post post things like that, expect someone to"

Funny that someone is always you, isn't it? :D

Would you also prefer your car to have a crank handle, because you don't trust that new-age electricity to start your car?

Perhaps sir would like a brass horn whilst he's at it?

However can you be 100% sure all your doors are locked by the press of your key?
Well you can't be sure, you just play the odds they are all shut unless you actually try them and that doesn't mean they are all shut the next time.

Of course I can be sure, the hazards won't flash until all the doors are locked, as can be evidenced by locking the car with a door open/a jar.

If you honestly have that little confidence in the functional ability of your car then you need a new car.

I've never once doubted all my doors locked and never once encountered a situation where they didn't - despite owning cars up to and including 15 years old and 210,000 miles.

It's a fairly simple electronic system. We're not talking about Schroedinger's cat.

An engine that feels as good as it sounds. I like the senses to be tingled when climbing the rpm scale. Oh and it will be very hard to own less than 300BHP now, so that also.

Everything else is an added bonus. As a car enthusiast who only drives for leisure, the engine is what matters most.

Is this like Schroedinger's cat?

Edit*

I hate you Nick.

After owning the X5 I couldn't settle without space. I think that's the only must have for me.

What I would want in addition is something at least as quick as the X5, 7s+, but also it's the torque that I enjoy. A nice sounding exhaust, whether that be down to the engine or the exhaust system.

Xenons/LED's
No less than 5 cylinders
Decent stereo and infotainment
0-62 in less than 5s
A bit of comfort
Leather
Heated seats (possibly negotiable...)
Cruise
Climate control

Considering my first car was a 1990 Nissan Micra with 45bhp mated to a 4 speed manual box, with absolutely none of the above creature comforts, my requirements have come a long way! :D

If he said less than 5.2 seconds, you'd say oh the humanity if it does it in 5.4 instead. :p

Gotta draw a line somewhere. :D

I'd like my ideal car to do 0 - 60 in under 6.5 seconds. Thats definitely (sadly) not me listing a spec of my current car :p

0-60 of exactly 4.8s
Xenons
Nav
Climate
19s
Top speed of 170+
Leather
Petrol
Transmission with a clutch
Premium audio
Plain coloured exterior
'Different' coloured interior
Auto folding mirrors
Led rear lights
Naturally aspirated
300hp+

What if it does 0 - 60 in 4.8s but only has 280BHP? :p

Why do you need a top speed of over 170MPH? :p

I find "car spec" interesting, some things seem like a great idea in advance then turn out to be a total waste of time.

For example: i'm the sole driver of my car yet i was happy it had 18 way electric memory seats.

I've found my perfect driving position and not touched the buttons since, plus these things must weight a ton!

Would i look for them in a future car, erm, no.

Absolute no to your first question.

to your second.

I'm frankly open minded. My Polo doesn't have a sat nav, cruise control, arm rest, climate control or worst of all, furry dice, but I was not going to add stuff I don't REALLY need to a station car on a dirt cheap lease as it would have been a waste of more money on a mechanism of basic transport and would have meant a delay in a car I needed fairly quickly to spec up. My R8 doesn't have an arm rest either and I miss that and it's sat nav is terrible but the rest of the car meant I didn't care. My GT3 had NOTHING, not even a phone kit, sat nav, arm rest, cruise control but again, it didn't matter. However if I was buying a motorway mile muncher I would want toys and all the bits. Horses for course really. I do miss the dice the more I think about it though :(
