Whats your views on this compensation?

Compensation to the injured party and fines for corporate manslaughter are totally different beasts. One is a civil claim and the other is criminal.

Since February 2016 there are new sentencing guidelines which stipulate how much money a business can expect, depending on the nature of the injury. In a nutshell it is bracketed... "high culpability"... "high injury / death" ... "massive turnover" .... "poor safety record / aggravating factors", these are all things which now get taken in to account.

Oh and if you've admitted liability at the first opportunity the fine is reduced 30%. Got some mitigating factors? That'll drop the bill a bit :(

This is why large companies get "get away" with maiming or killing individuals as the fines won't touch their bank balance. Essentially the idea is good but I've yet to see substantial penalties that will deter businesses all that much.
