I haven't used Whatsapp for two days now, and I've just noticed that it's currently the largest user of my battery in the list. Currently sitting at 30% of total battery usage despite just being installed and not being used. Is anyone else getting this?

On mine it's 7% and is closed all the time unless I get a notification. This is on iOS.

I think I signed up for FB in the early 2000 but only used it a few times -= Not been on for 15yrs or more so will I have to agree on WhatsApp.
I only had WA because it used WiFi and I was on PAYG phone - now calls are free I could dump it but it would be pain to get rid of it.

Were you in at college/uni with zukerburg? It come out in 2004

yes, a month ago after noticing huge drain I started freezing apps one by one, the 3 killers were in order.

nhs app
whatsapp
facebook

yes whatsapp was worse than the facebook app.

Trying Signal, pretty decent app. Got my top people I message to move over as well so can easily remove WhatsApp now.

WhatsApp used to be 99p per year before Facebook bought it

I'd rather pay for it than have all of my chats data mined for adverts :-/

They charged on iOS as well. originally it was $.99c to download it, then they moved to free for the first year then a $.99/year sub after that.
I’ve checked back (I never delete any billing emails), it seems I paid for it when I first installed it on the 24th May 2010 and there was never an additional charge after that.

WhatsApp and Facebook messenger removed (FB account was deactivated 6 years ago). Instagram will be a bit more difficult.

I will use iMessage and Signal going forward.

A few of my contacts have expressed an interest in Signal. So we've all installed it and started using it between us. It seems fine.

Most of my family members have jumped ship to Telegram. And i'll be switching over too.

I don't have any social media accounts. Yes i did have Facebook account but deleetd that account back in 2015.

I got my Account Info export. This is interesting

I thought it was end to end encrytped ? if they can data mine it to push adverts then I am sure every security agency in the world is going to want that backdoor.

Installed all the alternatives, both to have a play and because you never know which will be deemed problematic and be removed from the internet next. So far despite Elon shouting out Signal, Telegram seems a bit more fleshed out.
