Wheel Swapping

I've changed all 4 wheels a few times with the jack that comes with the car, it's perfectly fine  Do you lot all have jacks made from cheese or something?

It's amusing how certain people on these forums absolutely pan others for running tyres down to near the legal limit, yet when it comes to correctly torquing wheel nuts, it's all gung-ho and blasé.

It's easy to over torque wheel nuts aside from anything else. Stripping the thread on a wheel nut = new hub time.

I've changed hundreds of wheels in my life (mainly on my old racecar) and never used a torque wrench. It really isn't needed.

there is nothing wrong with them either, it gets the car off the ground and only noobs can fluff it up. I just wouldn't want to use one all the time.

I certainly wouldn't like to work under a car held up by one of those stupid jacks.

Trolley Jack + Axle Stands held up by Screwdrivers 4TW :p

but i bet youve not had to get a breaker bar, 4ft of exhaust tube and jump on it, hoping the bolt doesnt snap to get a wheel off? or worked on a car where the bolt is already snapped?

my old man put new tyres on a Disco 10-15 years back, went over to france and noticed he was being flashed by lorries. one wheel was wobbling all over the place at the back

due to the heat from brakes, wheels expand and ive heard things about bolts snapping when everything gets hot

plus i love using torque wrenches. i love using them on everything

no because I've never tightened them up like a moron.

the only time i've had to get scaffolding pole is to break off a hub/driveshaft nut, not a wheel nut.

ps I also like using my torque wrenches, but I don't pull them out if i'm taking a wheel off. too much effort when it really isn't needed.

The only time I've ever had problems with wheel studs/nuts is when some idiot with an airgun at a tyre place has tightened them up far too much. Not once had a problem with nuts coming loose or being too tight in the 15 odd years of changing hundreds of wheels. I can feel how much force is necessary. What are you going to do if you get stuck somewhere without a torque wrench or if your wrench goes out of calibration because you don't get it regularly calibrated? ;)
