When are you going fully electric?

Recently bought a property, I’m unable to have a EV charger installed at present due to the electrical supply being looped. Having to get an electrician to apply for this to be changed which can be refused.

Get your charger installed at 3.6kW only (16A) and then ask for the unloop - it cannot be refused, but it can take a long time.

I'm staying petrol until someone forces me or becomes financially not viable. I just don't enjoy driving electric cars, not anytime soon anyway.

I moved to electric in Feb this year, had a charger installed in March and have never looked back. Until now….

posted similar recently ... so electrcian quoting on a 16A restricted install initially ... also, on getting a 32A commando socket+pen protection with a commando charger ,
which I think is ultimately more versatile since can use the socket, with adapter, for other garage activities when not used for car ... could also sell commando on if bidirectional chargers get on market

What were the costs like for the commando socket install vs a restricted EV charger?

My mate has been a Petrolhead all his life and gone to many meetings around the country.
His wife talked him into this and he can't stop talking about it - https://www.mgcyberster.co.uk

Man, those things look great. I think it, and the upcoming Caterham Project V are easily the most exciting electric cars I've seen.

I know which one i'd prefer :P

If you can get away with a 2 seater then the cyberster is the "sensible" choice however the 2+1 or 2+2 option of the caterham means that could be a real contender for some people where the cyberster isnt practical. will be nice to have both of them on the road.
the weight is interesting...... that caterham is really light which will likely make for a more enjoyable driving experience - which is the point I guess - however for me the extra seat in the caterham would be for my 8 year old and i wonder (and maybe i am wrong) what compromises are made on safety in the event of an accident to get those weight numbers so low.

Back in the day I almost bought a TVR cerbera but one of the reasons i was put off (the other reliability) was what happens if i end up in a prang!

Amazing how the RS version has halved in value in just a few years. It would do me nicely though.

I saw it coming, which is why I cancelled my order. Great value today though, I saw a carbon black edition from a main dealer for £60k lol It's sold now, but that's one hell of a loss in the first year.

:edit: damn, they are still dropping  '22 RS for £49k now

Great value, but yes, somehow still dropping!

I think it’s partially a correction against ridiculous prices that manufacturers think they can charge for cars. Initially they were using government money to disguise the price gouging, that is now being peeled back and the true price people are willing to pay is being revealed.

Shareholders are going to be in for a shock as I doubt CEO’s were signposting the fact this would be happening, getting their yr/yr bonuses, then a payout to move on when this situation comes along.

i am not saying you are wrong but ...... the audi RS GT is essentially a porsche Taycan (personally i prefer the looks of the Audi, i prefer my porkers to be smaller but that is by the by)....... but by that metric is the RS GT really that much more over priced than an panemera Turbo S? (which in a very very quick google between work runs is the closest equivalent ICE car i could find)

time will tell and a car is only worth what people will pay, but i wonder if they have not over corrected at the moment (so a great time to buy one)

put it this way if i have £55k burning a hole in my pocket, i would rather have an Audi RS GT on my driveway than most other cars for similar money... esp when you consider average yearly running costs.

Agreed, and it was quite shocking really. Audi shared the development costs with Porsche, and I assume bought the battery packs in. They basically built a fancy chassis around it and charged £140k. It was priced with the R8, and whilst both cars came from the same factory line I'd guess the R8 is more expensive to build.

Still a nice car though, and it's a lot of car for £49k if you find a decent one.
