When are you going fully electric?

Jealous of the auto warm up cycle on my wife’s mini. Her entire car is defrosted when I get out to mine that is completely frozen. Colleagues have told me about it, but it’s something to behold on these cold mornings.

The added benefit that you don’t have to wait for the engine to provide heat either. Now that we have an EV tariff it’s a no brainer for my next car, probably in a few years. Plus the night tariff if saving us on a lot of other electrical items it would seem, the hot tub for example.

I had the displeasure of have to put fuel in a car for the first time in ages, in the freezing cold. The pump handle was freezing and I had to stand there while the icecold wind whipped through the forecourt, I was unimpressed to say the least and realised how many people have yet to be blessed with ability to re-fuel on the drive at home and not put up with that horrid experience.

That too, I’m trying to put off getting petrol until at least Tuesday when it isn’t meant to be quite as cold.

Yep - haven't touched the Merc since ~26/12. It's now frozen over and I don't have a big enough run to get enough heat into the engine. Pug on the other hand is winding me up - the app is just trash. I wish the car could connect to WiFi for reliable connectivity/remote heating.

This is a fun page to have a quick glance at lol

Edit: this is NET as well.

Looks like all the Arval prices have shifted again. They keep emailing me to place an order now --- is this normal? I am not due until July.

Ford Explorer Select has gone from 703 to 773
Renault Scenic Alpine has gone from 714 to 743
Model Y Long Range RWD has gone from 1040 to 830.

I was originally looking at the Model Y Long Range AWD at 806. I didn't need AWD but given how it was priced, and maybe for dodgy conditions, it might be useful. With July delivery I assume it'd be Juniper? Are the cameras as bad as everyone is saying?

Need to do some maths as well- the Pug has only got 11.5k miles on it in 2.5 years which puts me at 13.8k forecast. I have done the quotes above on 20k miles on the basis a bigger car will mean it can fulfil more use cases.

However we've changed nursery too, so the car won't be doing a regular ~8 miles Mon-Thurs...

Edit: or wildcard, I just "send it" and get the Quattro Audi Q4 with Leather/Tech pack @ £1025/mo. Q6 base model is £1250.

Don’t over estimate miles. Costs money you cant get back. Underestimate and you can always pay the mileage if over. (Assuming sensible rate )

Lot of money for doing 20k miles in 3yrs. Maybe they will offer a year extension on existing ?

so I guess Mokka won't either, another plus for ID3... was looking at trying powerline internet adapter to get wifi into garage if I get a larger 32a charger cable pulled,
(adjacent armoured IP cable probably impractical, and combined cable seems not to exist ) another gotcha to consider in purchase.

Or you know, you could just run EV Ultra cable and do a proper job, you keep whining and moaning about spending money to add an appliance that will last at lease a couple of decades, which is a rounding error in the grand scheme of things to the value of your property.

ok I'll look further hadn't found armoured 32a sub-terrain cables with cat5 (to give wifi to charger and car)
e: existing (too small 2.5) cable goes through a conduit so maybe armoured is not essential

All those googling hours and you are unaware of combined power data cables? The mind boggles.

I reckon if I didn't have a pre-heat function on the car, I'd have spent more time so far this winter scraping and cleaning the car off, than I do 'wasting' time at public chargers for the entire year, add that to the time saved not putting fuel in and I must be circa 1/4 day better off in time saved. We still have a good 6+ weeks of winter to go, so if we have any more cold snaps then I'd hope the naysayers who can't put up with inconvenience of an EV maybe wake up and smell the coffee. Who am I kidding it's all just bull crap excuses any way.

You need a a cable to a charger to be able to give WiFi to the charger ? Why when you have a cable? Also why does a car need WiFi?

Just run a 6mm cable and be done with it

we have poor mobile signal (so have a more basic problem than those with earlier vodaphone dropouts) a car that connects to wifi is thus essential (for app based preheat)
we would need to get the internet to the garage (40M odd away - other side of neighbours property) to provide that.

charger may/will need internet too, so the upgraded buried cable (also providing power to garage) will need to provide that.

e: OK does look like a 4mm armoured with cat exists
EV-Ultra SWA Cable 3 Core
4.0mm + CAT5E Data

Yeah I think 15k might be worth it. Can stick 900 away just in case.

Much cheaper to keep you're right, but I'm well and truly tax trapped for the next 4 years so thought I'd rinse it whilst I can't touch the cash.

Also much cheaper cars in general like MG4, Kona etc but hoping to use it for holidays etc this time. Pug way too small.
