When are you going fully electric?

Ovo, charging any time, has to have a compatible charger I thought, versus octopus that could/should work with a compatible car, alone - which way will other suppliers jump.
if suppliers decide they only want to give cheap units for car use, I guess the former.
I won't have good 4g/wifi signal in the garage if that is one of the reasons compatible cars, alone, are unreliable.

They functionally have the same requirements - compatible car OR charger.

The only difference is:
Ovo - cheap energy for your car only and rate for the rest of your electricity is the price cap rate.
Octopus - cheap energy for your entire use during the off peak period (2330-0530) AND any additional 30 min slots outside of this time but their 'day rate' is 1.5p/kwh above the price cap.

Octopus works out cheaper for most people because the 6 hours of cheap typically works out better than the 16 hours being slightly more expensive, particularly if you run appliances overnight. Your milage will vary of course based on your own usage profile.

You were championing this alternative stuff to Octopus with no experience of it and look at some of the issues…
be prepared !
how do you think market will evolve then - govt had mandated smart chargers I thought, with an eye on taxation, so need to be in the right (scout) camp.

Any is better than normal tarrif for EV. Analysis paralysis means you aren’t getting an benefit of EV in the golden era

Go often gives charging mid evening so you house goes to 7p and then you can stick the dishwasher etc on rather than at 3-4times the cost. Why is a car only tarrif ever a good idea ?

Imagine the tragedy of having to invest in coverage for something you are going to likely use for forever going forward, or you know as already pointed out put Ethernet in there and buy a super ultra mega cheap AP for £20 of eBay.

You seem to find obstacles deliberately, that aren't really obstacles. I'd imagine if you ever forgot you keys thinking you were locked out your house you'd try and climb through the very smallest window, before checking the door to find it unlocked with the keys on the inside.

Best way to be prepared is run eth/access point and then get a compatible car (i.e. one that connects to WiFi, so no Pug E2008 for you!).

There are more holes in the 'idea' that you can tax electricity going into cars than Swiss cheese. Everyone knows this including the government.

'Smart' is also a very generous description of them, the functionality in them is very basic and easily bypassed.

Even if they banned dumb chargers entirely (e.g. granny leads), you can make your own EVSE with off the shelf parts, there is absolutely nothing special about them at all. Or just import one or use one of those which is already on the market, that would be easier.
