When are you going fully electric?

jaguar ipace - comfortable, nice to drive, decent amount of room and good performance. (also I think they look fantastic inside and out (I like that they look like a car inside - not a fan of the minimalist bench with tablet glued to it looks of some cars cockpit) ). 3-4 year old top spec lowish miles can be gotten for £25k which is a lot of car for the cash

however slow charging compared to other cars, not very efficient and expensive to maintain of anything goes wrong with them.

BMW i3. fun little car to drive it's like a go kart/milk float on steroids and a great 2nd car. decent amount of room inside for 4 people (only 4 seats) but

tiny boot, expensive to buy for what it is and not much range (ours is the middle sized battery with around 90 mile winter range) ours has the range extender but I would not recommend that unless you absolutely need it, adds a lot more things to go wrong with it , adds weight which lowers the range and pushes the price up (you could probably get a newer car with larger battery for same price)

I would say the i3 is a bit of a buy with your heart not your head car. Buy because you like them but imo there are better vehicles to get you from A to B for the money. their construction was very advanced for what they are.

I3 was ahead of it's time if they only updated the architecture .. has enough time elapsed to resurrect it like R5,
for cuteness it's got likes of the e-twingo beat.

Right, new company, new company car. I only have EV's to choose from, gotta keep it 4 years, unlimited mileage, servicing, maintenance, insurance blah, blah. looking at ~15-20k a year.

Toyota Bz4x motion is the "base car" but with "affordable" monthly uplift's i have narrowed the choice down to:
EV6 GT-line 84KWH 225PS Auto
Skoda Enyaq 85 edition
Skoda Elroq Sportline 85 82KWH 210Kw
Ford Explorer Premium 77KWH Extended Range RWD
Ford Capri Select 77KWH Extended Range RWD
ID4 Style 77KWH Pro 286PS Auto

Theres BMWi4/i5/ix1/ix2, Audi Q4 etrons/sportback e-trons, EVA/EVB's on the list, and whilst affordable, it seems to get bells & whistles, you have to pay through the nose for "packs".

Theres no Polestars, Genesis, Volvo, Telsa Y (they have the 3). Charger getting installed FOC soon.

Is there a clear winner I need to consider, or is it much a muchness and decide when i go waste the dealerships salesguys time at the weekend?

Ta
No clear winner but for me it probably comes down to price and pricing seems to vary wildly from day to day depending on what the lease companies want to shift that day.

I would have the Kia EV6 GT line or the Gt line S (if available) at the top of the list. It’s the best all rounder at its price point. RWD is fine, no need for AWD unless you really want it.

Avoid: Toyota - not great IMO.

Consider: Audi Q4/VW ID4 & ID5, Ford Explorer & Capri, Skoda Enyak are all the same underneath with a different set of clothes on top. None are really best in class at anything but they are ‘fine’ if the price is right and you are happy with the way they look. Just expect to get some stick from ‘car enthusiasts’ if you buy the Capri….

BMW i4 and particularly the i5 are objectively the nicest places to sit but you’ll probably be paying for it. Make sure these are the long range versions. I may be wrong but recall the smaller battery on the i4 doesn’t give the best range.

Just bare in mind the monthly is likely to rise over the next 4 years, potentially by a material amount:
All will be subject to £195 VED + many the £410 expensive car supplement from April.
BIK rates are due to rise 1% per year and are planned to be 9% by 29/30. That’s a material number on a car with a £50k list price.

I’d get the Capri just to wind up the fan boys:p

But yeah as previous posts the facelift EV6 is spot on as a EV and as a car. Next after that would be the Elroq in sport line trim. The Enyaq in non sport line trim just looks a bit too ordinary imo.

The guys who have switched to Tomato, have you had any problems with billing or smart meters and any problems with your EV chargers? I am very very tempted to switch to them as it would bee a significant saving for me. I would have done it before but I'm not convinced that they will be around long term.

don't like the look of the EV6 - but the explorer tablet and pan roof would make that the pick of MEB platforms.

further on topic of going commando charging to save money -
hadn't appreciated chargers like ohme pro need a good 4g signal to work, a vw/stellantis car that would need that too, to communicate pre-heat/charging instructions to it,
so if you have poor mobile reception you'd be fool with such a combo.

No problems here but it's early days so I haven't had a bill yet. Smart meter data shows on myWatts with about a 90 minute delay. That is verses Octopus where I wouldn't see data until the following day.

On switch over day I got 9 emails over the course of 50 minutes asking for my initial meter reading. myWatts doesn't view properly on mobile so it was only after opening it on my laptop I actually got the screen to enter the initial reading.

That minor point aside it was a seamless swap.

As for chargers, I can't help you there as I just have the schedule set on the car to start at 1am every morning.
