When are you going fully electric?

the ipace is a curious beast. its marketed as an SUV but is way more low slung than any suv i can think of....... cross over maybe?
that said.... arnt proper SUVs meant to be 4WD and actually sporty? which would make the ipace more of an SUV than my 1.5 diesel nissan QQ .

i dread to think how much it cost but some guy had a model 3 converted to an estate car.... I am not certain where i saw it.... fully charged youtube channel maybe (they called it a shooting brake iirc which was a new term on me - despite my dad being a wild fowler). there was also a model S converted to one but that was horrendously expensive.

When I saw it the interior fit and finish wasn't all that hot. The idea was to try and justify the (horrendous) costs of doing the prototype vehicle by offering a limited run to customers. As far as I'm aware there were never any takers...

Yeah and another 32cm turns a focus into a Range Rover

Yeah a lot of people hate SUVs based on the style and looks and only use size as a go to excuse. Like the colleague who said without any hint of irony that my previous E-Tron was too big. Yet he drove a VW Passat estate which was only 13cm shorter and a touch wider inc mirrors.

suv hate - It's the height and frontal form impact on aerodynamics, plus the handling impact of higher centre of gravity from the additional road clearance(even for evs)

It’s a model S. I saw one at a Late Brake Show Live event, couldn’t understand the appeal or justification for commissioning something like that

Yeah, my e-Niro rolls like a cruise liner in a hurricane :p, the 14 year old Octavia estate I had before handled far better :(

Much longer focus is bigger than shorter Kona in vehicle layout shock.

It's a valid point though, it highlights that there aren't any big, practical, affordable EVs.

The MG5 is the only one which really nails the combination of price/range/practicality, almost everything else in that price range is either much smaller or much shorter range (or quite frequently both!)

if you are on a budget I am not sure how you go beyond MG for an ev tbh. they have SUV, estate and medium family car sewn up imo. loads of rivals in china of course but none make it here

OK I stand corrected - I should give credit where it's due to model3 (its weight might impact centrifugal force in a dynamic situation though)

In this chart, we get the first like-for-like comparison of vehicle static rollover resistance. Static stability factor can be interpreted as the lateral G a vehicle can sustain without tipping over.

Impressive from the Tesla there!

To be fair, the Niro doesn't do too badly in the same test (sorry for the Spanish, it's the only one I could find :p)

It definitely feels a lot more "rolly" than the Octavia though.

I'd imagine EV SUVs have a bit of an advantage vs ICE SUVs due to the lower centre of gravity from the heavy battery in the floor.

Absolutely - the MG5 (new shape) is a fantastic car if you need something practical, long range & fairly decent to drive on a budget. I just wish it was a bit bigger! :)

Are MG actually able to deliver MG5s nowadays?
I hear horror stories about MG ZS waiting times (well over year) and after 5 months I got sick of waiting for an MG4, hence going for the Tesla.

Initial impressions were gained from a 250 mile trip home from collecting it - the supercharger network is amazing and I'd have no qualms about using it for a long trip.
Was also able to charge it from 17% to full overnight using Intelligent Octopus, all at cheap rate (went outside their 6 hour window but that's how IO works). It's the 60kwh battery, not the long range - which is also an LFP battery as opposed to the (NMC?) in the other cars - so it likes a 100% charge. None of this 80% malarkey.

No idea what it's like at the moment, but I test drove one last November, and they reckoned I could have it before Christmas

It seems massively dealer, maybe area, dependant with MG, or in other words a bit of a mess :p

I ordered my MG4 in early December and was told 16-20 weeks, I picked it up 16 weeks and 1 day later... Yet others on the mgevs forum ordered before me and are still being told 8 week+ waits which is crazy...

Ive been in a P2 for the last week as potential sucessor to my PHEV. Had a nice surprise when ive been to both my southern and northern offices, that 11kw chargers are priced at a crazy 15p/unit. If that continues, my decision will be made very easy.

Note... i am not shilling for a company, and i dont even know if i can reccomend them yet (hopefully will meet them on friday) but they have taken down "my" ipace now and replaced it with this.

I am not saying i regret my purchase and want to swap but................. its a good looking car in that colour imo. (certainly better than the average grey/silver cars i have seen

Looks like mine and I would have preferred the black alloys but mine was a special offer on salary sacrifice and the wheels could not be changed. Still very happy with the polished alloyes as they stand out a but more than pure black. Mine also had no HUD or 360 cameras due to chip shortage and I donlt miss either to be fair.

I also like the fact that the 2022 models removed the Jaguar and model name (HSE) from the side moldings. I think they look a touch tacky.
