When are you going fully electric?

Tesla is definitely widely perceived as a luxury brand in my experience - our workplace has various BMWs, Audis, Jags etc. but when someone turned up in a Tesla one day you'd think he'd just rolled up in an Aston or something.

Your typical enthusiast might not be impressed at the build quality or features but to suggest people view them as the 'new Mondeo' is laughable.
Tesla is apple or car world. Average joes think it’s the “best” because the seat farts.

really still waiting for the first Hollywood role for an electric car to attract youngsters - a bullet, ronin .... equivalent maybe Tom will serve something up ,
come to think of it don't remember engine noises in Knight Rider - was that a clandestine electric

People forget a Mondeo used to be an aspirational car, as did a BMW 3 series. Just time moves on

Tesla is something people see as quite high end at the moment, but in 20 years time we might look back at them the same way we view a Mondeo now and something else will take its place.

Can anyone recommend a EV charger? I’ve just ordered a Niro EV so will need a charger at the house. Ideally one which works with Octopus Intelligent. And solar panels for when I get them installed.

Any recommendations for installers too?

i think it is the ohme charger which is directly compatible with IO but, I think octopus support the E Niro directly so you should be ok.
last I looked the Ohme does not have solar integration.

I have a zappi and can't knock it (I have solar so the zappi is good... Some other charge points support solar but as I understand it Zappi is still the leading one for combining solar charging). it isn't directly supported by IO but hopefully will be soon. (was meant to be spring but is now autumn)

these guys did mine. I was happy with them.

You know full well a Tesla is not perceived the same way as a Mondeo was, even if they're equally popular company car choices because of the tax breaks these days.

Tesla will be the Mondeo of the car world though. They are pretty fisher price in terms of looks and build quality with exception of the model s.

The money all goes on the drive train. Which isn't a bad thing really.

I much rather have a Mondeo with a decent engine and drive train than a BMW with the typical poverty spec engine for example.

Thanks Mike I’ll go with the Zappi. I’ll check out that company for a quote.

Yet, don't think I'd recommend an OHME. Sure, there's lots of interesting info - and perhaps for a layperson stating when you want it charged by, and to what % is ideal. However there's no options that I'd have liked.

- Setting designated start / stop times.
- Setting a lower charge rate (it does this automatically to 'balance the grid', but there's no user option to charge at 3kw when you've got excess solar.
- There is an option to charge at only the lowest £ times, however this is a rather hidden away feature, and it's not in sync with Intelligent Octopus - so you'll only get it to work during a defined time period.

Also, as far as I can see there's no Alexa integration.

on the counter my Ohme has been awesome and on agile takes all the thinking out of optimising the charge as it links to Octopus Agile. A home pro is probably an even better bit of kit

my only problem with the zappi (other than it's not supported by IO yet) is it is a bit big. but then on the flip side it has excellent cable management if you go tethered (which for me was a better choice )
if you want untethered tho it's a bit of a monster.

The infrastructure just isn't there. I keep reading horror stories about queues for electric chargers @ service stations and similar. Maybe one day ....

You're right, it's a nightmare.
