When did Ubuntu get so .. good?

I really need to get a better graphics card in my Linux machine, I might see if I can pick up a 4*0 for about 50 quid, as the onboard 9300 is good for playing videos, not a lot else :)
 
I entered the world of Linux via Ubuntu. I stayed with it from version 6 up to 9, every now and then i will try out the latest release but not for long.

Ever since i perfected my Arch install (using XFCE) everything else just seems to be more sluggish.

I didn't automatically dismiss Gnome Shell nor Unity, but there not for me. But if you want to try a desktop that will really leave you confused then fire up the Windows 8 Developer Preview. I got frustrated after 5 mins, but i can accept it's not 'finished' so maybe it will be smoother when released.
 
Got my new laptop for university today.

Windows 7 as main for web development/animations/photoshop and then when im out and about and for web browsing, i use Ubuntu.

Loving it after a good 2 hours or so, nice design, simple, and not a snail for browsing, also doubles my battery life which i didnt expect :)

Just cant for the life of me get chrome to install so i'll keep with firefox for a little while longer :)

EDIT: Actually scrap that, battery life is still shoddy at 2 hours :p but thats on balanced, and without a full cycle, and obviously it hasn't even been used enough for it to stabilise.

The mainline linux kernel has some big power regressions that need to big fixed, these aren't likely to be sorted until ubuntu 12.04.

and being a mainline kernel problem this affects all distributions.
 
I'll use it every now and then, was just to have a tinker, need to get used to the interface as i will be using linux labs at university, as well as mac labs :(

Mint has one, but it is on the CD .iso which stinks & it only supports cd install. It would be smart to allow you to download it separately. It is called mint4win, I treid to find it, but could not.

While I have managed to get a fair chunk of apps to run under linux, its games that are my biggie... For this, I still use Windows.

I also do.

One thing I do miss about SuSE/OpenSuSE is YaST, a real setup app. Ubuntu/Mint need something like that, it made seting stuff up easy. It is strange that SuSE/OpenSuSE has the easy setup tool.
 
Hell no. I use Virtual Machines purely for testing and piddling about. I do not use the Virtual machines in any serious other way at all

I dont even dual boot.

I have Windows PCs and I have Linux PCs but I dont do both.

If I could find one readon to have Linux in a Virtual box, then it would be purely in a "I never restart my PC" kind of reason, other than that, I can think of none.
 
Well for me I have two routes, I can virtualbox or move my old 4gb ram kit into my old computer that I cba to sell which has an AMD 965 cpu, hook it up to the network and login remotely to it.

I don't have the space for lots of computers, I have to move my imac onto my desk to use it hehe...
 
What is Wine/CXOffice/Whatever support like for Photoshop these days?

I'm a Linux man at heart but requiring Photoshop for the inevitable horrible days where I'm forced to slice something, it's never been able to do what I need completely on the desktop, apart from a few short stints where I was allowed to purely focus on development for extended periods.
