when did whole cream milk get rubbish?

I would say it's probably market demand, because homogenisation doesn't have to be carried out on milk. It'll be the same pathetic market demand that has resulted in us having flavourless nutritionless fat-free milk on the shelves, driven by the sort of people who will only eat the breast meat on a chicken, who don't like read meat or any kind of meat with bones in because it makes them squeamish, who things that a dob of butter will kill them etc etc. I could rant on, I have a real problem with this situation.
See below.

Ewwww... We used to fight over who had to have the top bit of the milk with the gammy cream.

Semi-skimmed, or even 1% (orange) milk is win.

Those "creamy bits" that you're so fond of make me feel sick. Honestly, there's nothing that ruins the fun of pouring milk onto a cowl of cereal more than witnessing lumps of the stuff piling on the top :(

Urrrrgh!
I close my case.

That's a bit harsh - and wrong.

I like skimmed milk because it doesn't make me gag when I drink it. If someone makes me a cup of tea with full fat milk, I can't drink it. I don't like it on my cereal either - I can force it down but I certainly don't enjoy it. I'll take semi skimmed on my cereal if I can't get skimmed but I much prefer skimmed.

None of the other stuff you list applies to me either. I much prefer chicken thighs over breast, I eat a lot more red meat than I do white meat, I regularly eat meat with bones and I have two types of butter in my kitchen because I love butter so much.

It is possible for people to actually have a preference for something healthy simply because they prefer it (or dislike the alternative). I don't fit in with your prejudices and nor do my parents who also prefer skimmed milk. I can't speak for people I don't know but I'm pretty sure there are a great many people in the same boat.

I agree with Jonny69. People are in general far too scared of stuff that is in fact perfectly fine in moderation.

And what are you crying about Stan Lite? You're not the kind of person that Jonny69's talking about, fine; that doesn't mean those people don't exist.

Crying  I didn't say these people didn't exist. I know quite a few people who fit Jonny's description perfectly.

Jonny is suggesting that the homogenisation of milk and people's preference for skimmed milk are driven largely by the sort of people described.
I would suggest that, whilst these people undoubtedly contribute to the tendency towards these products becoming prevalent, the majority of people who prefer them do so simply because they like them and not because they are squeamish about eating what Jonny (and you) would presumably consider 'real food'.

Man up Stan. You're the kinda guy who would prefer single malt on your cornflakes and I know you secretly prefer cream in your milk :D

Isn't that how you're supposed to eat cornflakes? :p

If I'm drinking milk as a drink on its own or if I'm making hot chocolate I prefer creamy. For most other purposes, I prefer skimmed :)

I'm firmly in the semi-skimmed camp, and I've been known to eat raw chicken to see what it tastes like.

I just can't get on with blue milk, and tried gold once and just did not like it. For me, the milk has to be very fresh as well. After 2 or 3 days the flavour has changed so much I can barely drink it (though it's just about passable in coffee).

Gold top milk on Coco pops is the ultimate treat. Makes you feel sick after but it's worth it.

Normally get semi skimmed but it's a pleasant surprise when you get whole milk by accident at a hotel or something. Anyone that doesn't like the cream on top of their milk needs to MTFU. I didn't like it as a kid, but then I grew some balls and now I'm a goddam creamy milk drinking sexual tyrannosaur.

Still get milkmen around here but we go to Asda we buy 4x4 pints a week and its nearly all gone after a week, I can easily drink a pint a day sometimes, thank god I can drink skimmed, I dont mind it, got use to its watered downness, I wouldnt like to see my gut if I was drinking 7 pints of full fat a week.

Whole milk is about 4% fat
Semi skimmed milk is 1.7% fat
Skimmed milk is between 0.1-0.3% fat

O_O When ever I drink whole milk it feels like I am drinking pure cream.

This. Pretty much word for word. I don't like cream. In milk, in choux buns, in any situation. That'd why I don't like full fat milk. I still buy gold top sometimes because my OH likes it.

Wow, that's got to be the most quickly judged I've ever been.

I'm not one of those people, I actively scoff at people who avoid fat because they're told to, removing the fat from bacon and saying "oh my god no you need to drink skimmed milk because it has less fat!".

I never implied that I am even slightly that way inclined, I just don't happen to enjoy lumpy milk.

Thanks for the insult though mate

White russian is my favourite alcoholic drink.

Me too!

I used to love the top of the milk on my cereal too - will have to get some of this gold top and have a nostalgia-fest (maybe I'll watch some cartoons with it).

Skimmed milk is just water, asleep and having a really vivid dream about milk.

Semi-skimmed milk for me and I love butter and will eat anything including, shock horror, red meat. I prefer the taste to full fat and skimmed is just horrible.

When I was growing up we had a milk man - I used to love pressing down the foil tops and glugging the cream out onto cereal.

In fact, I often hear a milk float go past - time to look it up!

Excellent, these guys will deliver three times a week: http://www.milkandmore.co.uk

Edit: Well, I've just signed up to get my milk (and eggs) from the milkman. If you do too, using my referral code (AGYFBN7R), you get £10 off your first invoice, and I get £5 off too! :)

Blue top for me, if theres none of it in the fridge ill use semiskimmed, but skimmed is a definite no no. Too bland. I do maintenance work in a local dairy, in the six years or so ive been in it, ive never seen any full fat milk like you got years ago.

If its not cravendale semi skimmed, do not want.

In fact I shall pour myself a glass of cravendale right now.

Hhhhmmmpppphhhh! You non cravendale drinking peasant oiks!
