Thanks for replying Sam, I was wondering if anyone else would end up having crohn's on the forum :O
Glad to hear things do eventually improve, this is my first flare up and i'm 2 months in atm. Currently i'm getting a blockage at the end of the small intestine, going for a barium swallow on tuesday, hopefully it won't require surgery as the preds get to work more. How long have you been suffering with the CD, and have you had to have any resections done ? Also any tips with adding interresting foods to the awfully bland diet i'm managing atm, if it wasn't for the fortisips i'd still be wasting away?
Thanks again for answering mate it makes me feel a bit less alone with it all
Well, diagnosed in 2003 after 6 months of losing weight down from 70 to 50 kgs. Went to uni, got an abscess in an accident, couple of drainages, various attempts to close it without luck but managed through medication. Thank god no major surgery on my tummy yet due to it being under control. Back to normal weight over a year or so. Diet-wise, I have learnt what agrees and disagrees with me. I eat/drink a lot of probiotic drinks and yogurts, supplemented with pills as well. I cannot handle oily, fried, greasy, curried food so as a Hindu with curries being a main dish frequently and enjoying takeaways, this is hard. SO I restrict my takeaways and my parents (whom I still live with atm) know how to cook avoiding spices and too much oil. When I was on my own at uni, it had no spicy food, just baked stuff really. You'll learn over time, what makes you feel unwell, and just avoid them. I love vanilla Fortisip, and although I don't need them these days as I'm over 75 kgs now, I still like them after going to the gym.
I tend to forget all about it when I'm with friends - anything to make me forget about it. Thought I'd be doomed to be single but met a lovely girlfriend and almost 2 years together. It's a bit of a nuisance to be ill but relationship works. Thing is to laugh about it really sometimes.
Generally okk toilet habits

P) but I like knowing there's a toilet nearby just in case. Still, I've managed full days out on hills and pastures hiking, etc.
You can join the NACC if you like and get quarterly mags regarding IBS - letters, new treatments, etc. Some good general books out there, if you want to read around the subject. Unfortunately, Crohns is one of these things where there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel yet, and you just have to fit your life around it. It will be a rough few months at the start but it should ease over time.
Email add in Trust if you have any more personal or just general questions. I'm on MSN messenger some evenings.
