When did you leave home?

Moved out at 17, and moved back in 6 months ago when things went downhill with my girlfriend at the time. will be Herr a while until i clear my debts etc. Paid my way since i left school.

22 when I got mortgage with my fiancee, and @colzboppo we got our 15% deposit due to a strict saving plan, and saved about 50% of income each month. We didn't care for renting as its 'dead money'. Renting is an excellent way of moving out quickly, and for compatibility with your partner. However if on a rubbish wage like ours, once we moved out it would take about a million years too save the money we did.

I moved into my own house when I was 20, which was fun but rather boring on my own although not a bad thing as it many going to work and putting in the hours was more interesting that sitting on my **** doing nothing at home. Since then my girlfriend has moved in which is great as the house stays tidy and the sink does not look like a scale model if the leaning tower of Pisa. Downside is Hollyoaks, eastenders and Geordie Shore...

I left home at the age of 17. I grew up in Spain till I was 17 then moved back to England on my own to go to college and moved in with Uni students, was pretty hard back then moving to a new country at the age of 17 and leaving my parents but I think it did me well.

28 now!

I lived with my dad until about 2 months before turning 28 as i had no reason to move any sooner, didn't see any benefit in going from only having to pay out 140 a month board to having to pay rent/mortgage & bills. Now live with my girlfriend.

Moved out at 20 to live with the guy I was seeing, we split up so back to the Rents - age 22...then moved into a flat share with a friend age 23 (same year I moved back to the Rents)...age 24, back to the Rents (buggered up my money living at the flat)...age 26 moved in with current boyfriend who lived with his Mum...just moved into our own house together this weekend - I turn 27 in April...

Left home last year, just turned 31.

Screwed my money up, lift at home clearing that all off, then got a house.

I moved out at 26 :o, but in my defence I was on the council housing list for about 8 years.

It was 4 years wait when I signed, I'd hate to think what it is now.

Went to uni at 18, then went back to my parents house for the summer. Half way through my second year in uni, I moved in with some mates and lived on their sofa for 5 months until they moved to a bigger place where I had a room :D

Lived in 3 different houses with friends from home.

I've spent the odd stint back at my parents house, like when I was really ill. Have been living with the gf for 4 years (I'm 28 now).

Have spent a bucket load on rent over the years, but I wouldn't change a thing.

19 - rents had split and mum decided to move down south with her new hubby. Been renting / studying / working ever since, I don't know if i'd have been able to stay at home and save as living with rents drives me nuts!

Question: a lot of replies are of people who have managed to buy properties in their early twenties, which surprises me.. How did you all manage to get on the ladder so quickly?
I assume they got in when house prices were 1/2 or 1/3 of what they are now.

Those of us who got to around that age more recently missed a chance on easy-street.
