When do 106's do 140?

Seriously. How is this possible? I was on the local bypass follwing one, he overtook a Focus and just kept on going. I followed and got up to an indicated 140 and he was still in front.

It didn't look over-modified like you would expect. It was a very clean, probably detailed black s reg 106. It had some pretty tasteful black wheels and and throaty, but not noisy, exhaust that was either very well cleaned or very new.

What sort of work would it have had done to do that?

The same way they can turn corners at 153mph.

To be fair, it probably had an Mi16 lump in it.

Could well be a tastefully modified GTI or although im unsure if its possible have a 306 GTI-6 lump?

I was thinking just the same, almost posted it as well.

TBH a 106 in the right trim could do 140 on the clock perhaps even a stock GTI will do this, so perhaps no that odd, i'm no Pug expert.

I think the more important question is, why were you trying to keep up at 140mph? Do you not value your license?

Many years ago, I had my bog standard 106GTi at an indicated 140mph, no doubt it was a fair bit slower in reality though.

Probably on the same peice of road that a SEAT Ibiza can do 173MPH.

I may well be mistaken but i thought the 1.9 gti was 115bhp stock? This flew up to speed, it wasn't your average 'foot to the floor down a hill on the motorway for three miles' affair. Would people be using nos or anything on the road? I would imagine that an indicated 140 would actually be around 125which i suppose isn't massively outlandish i suppose. It was the acceleration that surprised me more than anything.

All 106 GTi's were 1.6 16v about 120bhp, engine transplants aren't that easy or common either.

Ive had a 1.25 Fiesta at an indicated 121. Wouldnt of been anywhere near in real speed though.

Fair enough. I've just never seen one that been anything other than a mum's runabout or laden with plastic, fibreglass and filler.
