Just sold out and bought a 360 elite (always used a PC for gaming). I know the 360 is loud but when is loud too loud? Its like a kettle is constantly boiling in my living room! I’ve had the Elite less than a week, am I within my rights to take it back and ask for a different one? I’m quite prepared to listen to another one in the shop…I’ve spoke to a mate who has a 360 premium and claims it’s quite…should I / can I take it back?

It’s the Falcon Chipset, Benq drive, bought from GameStation.

Any thoughts on the noise issue?

I had mine for chistmas just gone its an arcade I would love to hear a loud xbox because mine sounds no louder than my partners wii or my home server. maybe I'm deaf or maybe these darn founded xboxs aint that loud.

I don't find mine that loud. Sure, it makes a bit of noise when the disc spins up to full speed, but the sound from the game drowns that out anyway.

I can never understand why people complain about the noise, do you all have the volume on your TV turned down as low as it can go or something?:confused:

or maybe you were lucky and got a quiet one! from what has been said on this forum many times before, it would seem some are loud, some are very loud and some aint so bad.

Well, yeah I guess some of us like to play games at night when mrs joebob and the kids are in bed, so have to have the volume on low - this is when the 360's noise used to bother me tbh, the rest of the time I did just turn up the volume of the TV to drown it out.

they are a little louder than older consoles, but not loud enough to annoy.

Indeed. None of the 360s I've had have been so loud as to be distracting. Like I said, as soon as you start playing a game you can't hear the console atall.

Did your parents ever turn the vacuum cleaner on while you were watching a movie or playing a video game? :p Same thing

But IME you dont even have to have the TV on a high volume to drown out the sound of the 360, I happily play at a low volume when the mrs and kids are in bed, and the sound of the 360 is never an issue.

TBH though none of the 360s I've ...um.... 'fettled' have been particularly loud, and I've done a fair few :s

It's not just one though:

Maybe I've struck lucky 4 times then....
Mine was really loud - like incredibly annoyingly loud, especially when spinning up a disc. My lads was a lot quieter though. My mate went through three and two were really loud and one was fairly quiet - so yeah I guess you have been lucky four times!

Mine is really loud compared to my mates one. It doesn't bother me that much now, I think you just get used to it.(or maybe my hearing has been permanently damaged by it!). Try taking it back, if they don't swap it then just put up with it.

My DVD drive is loud but the sexbox isn't, Normally I'd rip it out & mod it myself but i want to keep my 3yr warranty, Rock & a Hard place anyone ?

so its either a lot of lucky people or some people are over blowing the situation? my brother has an older 360 he has had it close to two years and thats quiet as well. for something with moving parts inside it how quiet do you actually want it? because the more money microsoft put into making a "quiet" machine the more expensive the 360 becomes.
