"When we gonna see FPS's with totally destructible environments?
I mean wouldnt it be ace if we could get a tank to blow a wall/house up so we could ambush the enemy?"

I dont really like it but Warmonger is like that. You can blow up the stairs so theenemy cannot follow. You can blow holes in walls and ambush the enemy.

This really needs to be done in conventional warfare games such as Battlefield and COD.

This would make each round a completely different experience, although I can see the problems with level design if you could just make a beeline for the enemy through a housing estate.

I must confess that I secretly crave for being able to ride around on the back of a jeep, trashing buildings with a .50 Cal

How about making clans/teams/competitive players factor in a changeable environment to their game play? If you knew that almost anything was possible you'd need to actually setup good tactics and support rather than just camp the choke points.

Yeah there is a strategy it's called deathmatch. For games like cs, it really doesn't work. Destructable environments could only be realistically used for a fast paced UT/Quake type of game of last man standing where tactics are ever changing depending on your opponents, then after the round ends, the map resets or something.

yes, in bf2 you cant even drive through wooden fences & mesh fences. Would be ace to go straight through them and small walls, all depending on physics of course, im not suggesting crazy things :)

You can drive a bf2 tank right through a building or wall if you install certain mods. I do that kind of thing all the time.

The main limitation is that the damage must be transmitted to every player, you cant really allow free form damage because of that.

Why has nobody mentioned Crysis
Yeah, I was wondering that too, seeing as it does almost everything the OP wants and isn't exactly an obscure game.

Also BFBC doesn't have destruction on Crysis' level but I think it works well for multiplayer games lasting 10-15 mins. You can destroy walls and towers but foundations remain. Maybe it would be cooler to level the buildings entirely but then there would be no cover at all and vehicles would dominate too much.
