When will ssd's price fall

prices have dropped though, if you consider a few months ago the 60gb vertex 2e was >130 and now it can be had for (this weekend only!) £91.99

I'd say prices started off cheap, then increased when retailers realised how popular the drives were. And it then takes ages for price to drop down again.

A shame there aren't more controller brands about really. Can only think of three available on current models - Intel, Sandforce, JMicron.

I bought my 2 kingston 40GB SSD's back in Jan, and I got them both for around £140. They were 'cheap' at the time and just 2 weeks ago I got a 64GB Crucial C300 SSD for £110 - prices seemed almost the same really, I was hoping they'd be much cheaper by now.

How long is a piece of sting?

They will eventually get cheaper, but imo they will never drop in price like mechanical hdds seem to fall every year or so.

What's a current average price? about £1.50 / Gb isn't it? (roughly)

Ive been watching the prices and they have been falling. Possibly 2-3 months ago the Vertex 2E 60GB was at around £160-£180. Now you can get em for cheap as £97.99. Intel X25M have dropped at a much slower pace compared to the Vertex, nevertheless dropping, but the drop has slowed down now at a much slower pace. Soon as new drives come out, am sure it should begin the cycle of drop in prices on the older models.

Tehy have dropped quiet abit since they came out. I brought a 30gb OCZ Vertex for £100 = £3.33 per a gb and now you can get a 60gb OCZ Vertex 2X for £92 £1.53 a gb. Obviously I haven't compared other brands or checked performance between drives, but they will fall as developments in SSD's advance or new tech is released such as the revodrives.

I bought my Crucial 128GB M225 August 2009 for £193. And the currenty 120GB C300 is going for £212.55 - 7% from quidco = £187 inc vat and delivery. Which is a great off.

I am currently thinking of upgrading my C300 64gb to 120gb. I don't want RAID as I need to then buy a good raid sata 3 card.
