When will we see recharable ammo a standard feature in games?

Bad idea for guns using bullets, its just too unrealistic. works with lazer guns though.

Doesn't bother me, but reloading I suppose is part of the skill. I would miss that.

resident evil 1+2 are good examples not to have rechargeable ammo in games. it made using the more advanced guns a bit more special if you couldn't find much ammo for it, like the Magnum in RE1, and Desert eagle in the RE2.

I quite liked the fact that in ME1 I didn't have to worry about ammo. Then they mucked that up in 2, along with forgetting to have an engaging story.

1943 has this.

Yeah I was going to point out that something like Battlefield 1943 has this. But then being a multiplayer only game and how intense and fun it could be, you never notice it in the end. In this exception for a dumbed down Battlefield game, it kind of works.

I kinda have this in Borderlands as I play as the soldier. I have a class mod that gives all my team regenerating ammo, plus shields that regenerate health slowely and I think my friend also has a class mod that regenerates health etc

For a game like this where we essentially just "whore" for XP and more loot I don't mind it so much but for other games that have a more indepth story I do prefer picking ammo up (or in ME1's case, overheating guns which I prefer a lot more to ME2's picking ammo clips up). Having said that, half the guns you can pick up in Borderlands are pants anyway and the only way to do any real damage to some of the enemies is to just endlessly spam them in the face, so regenerating ammo is useful in that respect lol

I can imagine it working if the ammo recharge had a cooldown of sorts - like if you used a nuke or something and then had to wait like 10 or 15 minutes to reload again.

pointless thread - mass effect already does this

Read the title again. I know some games do this but when will it become the norm in games just like when rechargeable health became the norm.

Survival horror games are an exception to this. I think modern action games would benefit from this.. might as well just make it unlimited ammo.

Hopefully never. I'm not a fan of recharging health either. Games used to be a challenge, now time equals progression.

Difficulty settings have got screwed up. COD4MW really wound me up with this. It's supposed to be a realistic war shooter, but you have infinitely spawning enemies and regenerating health. WTF? The net result is you either sit behind cover and pick people off and run out of ammo because they never stop coming, or you're forced to kamikaze your way to a mystical checkpoint beyond which the enemy-respawn-o-tron stops working. I don't think that's how war works. I'm always more inclined to hang back, pick enemies off, throw grenades into their buildings and so on, but I can't do that in COD4. To my mind, if they want it to be realistic, shots need to do a lot more damage, health shouldn't be recoverable mid-mission, and enemies shouldn't respawn. Either that or stop claiming the game is realistic.
