Isn't dinner just the main meal of the day?

Usually I have my dinner between 5-7pm, however sometimes I have my dinner early afternoon (usually on a Sunday) so my day is always either one of these two.

7-9AM Breakfast
1-3PM Lunch
5-7PM Dinner

or

7-9AM Breakfast
1-3PM Dinner
5-7PM Supper

Seems the most logical to me anyway! :)

Used to always say it as breakfast lunch and tea though my mum always called lunch dinner as that's when her and my dad used to have their main (cooked) meal

Now I say breakfast lunch and dinner but if I've had my main meal at lunchtime then I call my meal in the evening tea

Just to confuse things!

It's important to get your 5 a day.

If you're serious, we have a load of room here. All you need is whatever the fare is :)

If I won the lottery and didn't have to work I would just turn up at your door one day... SURPRISE!!

:D

Reminds me of this:

As a side point, anybody wanting to holiday in NZ. Don't bother with a Hotel, Go to Mag's... He also has a wild swimming pool that might appear for you!

Dinner = 12:00 - 14:00

Tea = 15:30 - 17:30

Supper = 19:00 - 21:00 (sometimes later in the summer)

It was always the "Dinner Bell" in primary/high school.

Some people eat dinner way too late. 7pm!? =\

Dinner is at 5.30pm for me. Lunch is 12.30-13.30ish

Rest of my family call it tea time though...Which is just something I've stopped doing since i moved out of the family home

Also, with regards to the dinner ladies answer. You also generally eat a packed lunch from a lunchbox do you not?

So its all still up in the air with regards to a definitive answer

It's lunch time !!!!!!

When I ask a girl out to dinner, I mean evening meal, I don't mean a baguette from Gregg's.

Dinner means lunch, so midday meal.

I use the obscure and abstract phrase Supper for evening meal, but lets not go there.

Tea means the same as supper.

No no no no!

When someone wine and dine someone, dine is a sit down, take your time, evening type meal.

Afternoon meal should be lunch.

I never use tea and supper, it isn't really needed. Tea confuses foreigners, they just expect a cup of tea.

If you say:

Breakfast - everyone knows it is the first meal of the day.
Lunch - everyone knows its the midday meal, even those who uses dinner instead of lunch. So to save the confusion, just say lunch ! There is no confusion what you mean then.

The only argument really is the evening meal. Since I am not going to say tea or supper, the only description left is Dinner, and like I said earlier. If I ask you out to dinner, i am expecting waiter service, sit down, evening meal.
