this is aimed at when using a forum, irc etc as it's not really applicable to a document where one would use spell check etc

do you:

a. place the mouse cursor back to the point of the mistake, correct it and then place the mouse cursor back to the most current point

b. cut the word using the right click and then re-type the word in full then place the cursor back to the most current point

c. delete the whole word and any proceeding words by using the delete key and re-type all of what you have deleted

d. i use another method (please tell me)

bit of a strange question i guess but i was with an associate today and he was instant messaging a client of his on his laptop but he had a usb mouse connected to his laptop (i assume he doesn't like the mouse pad?) i was watching him type and when he made a mistake on a relatively long word, he would use method b to correct it and it's something i hadn't really taken much notice of before but i assume (going on how efficient he was with it) that he had done it for a long time. i personally use method c as i find that it is usually quicker for me to delete the entire word and proceeding words than to move the cursor back but i will try and use method b from now on i think, will just take a little getting used to.

d) Backspace for short word, arrows for long word, hold down ctrl to skip past words. Correct issue then press end to get back to where I was. Too much effort using the mouse when typing.

I would use the arrow keys to navigate to the word and edit from there, unless I had written an absolute wall of text. If it was a huge wall of text I would use the mouse, click to in front of the error (or is that behind) then delete and retype the problem letters.

To be honest though, I tend to correct as I go rather than after writing up a whole post. At work I tend not to look at the screen or the keyboard (I'm typing this whilst looking at the television for example) so I do get the odd typo I need to go back and edit, but I can usually feel when I've made a mistake.

I use spell check.

If it's not a 'suggestion' then I would use 'c' if there isn't too much to delete, or 'a' if there's lots of text in the way (sometimes with arrow keys, sometimes with mouse).

a - but I use the cursor keys rather than the mouse.

This. Why would you do anything different! Saying that, I tend to correct as I go, more so... So just use backspace as and when required. Corrected about 3/4 words in this post alone just by backspacing what I typed last...

I can normally 'feel' when I've mistyped a word so I just backspace and fix it.

I can usually tell if I have hit a wrong key as soon as I do it and automatically delete the correct number of spaces using backspace without even thinking.

It's not often I have to correct after I have finished a whole paragraph but if I do I tend to use the mouse to click just after the word then use backspace to delete characters

Being old I learned to use pooters before all this windows cleverly selecting a whole word automatically, and even before mouse highlighting, so I'm stuck in my ways of going back with cursor keys or backspace. Sometimes I'll be backspace deleting several words with plenty of time to think 'why am I doing this, why dont I just pick up the mouse and go straight to the typo, or at least use the frikkin cursor keys instead of backspace. Oh well it's done now'. :)
