Dualcore CPU's first came out in around 2006 but it's been some 13 years now since then, so doing some simple math, we arrive at 26 cores :D and if that was the case, we would have 52 when you add on the virtual cores...

So what's happened...?

I would have thought it would be a doubling each year so over 16,000 cores:eek:

In that case it would be 128 or 256 cores if you use 6 or 7 doublings ;) Multiply the previous result by two rather than add 2 which was the original error :)

We way past that your 8 core cpu plus a GTX 1080 with 2500 cores? Or over 4000 if you Bosh in a 2080

I only joked as when I was working in IT I had a DEC Alpha at home running Lotus Notes as a test/development rig as for some reason my predecessor decided to deploy it on DEC equipment! :)

I had to Google DEC Alpha. Quite an interesting history. Amazing the things that go on without you ever hearing about them. I would have loved Google as a child :)

Cuda cores aren't CPU cores. A CPU core handles things like branch prediction and a very complex instruction set. If a Ryzen 2700 had 4000 cores, then it's transistor count would be 2,400,000,000,000. That many transistors (2.4 trillion) frabricated onto a 12nm wafer wouldn't fit inside a computer case.

As a comparison, the 2080 with it's 4000 cuda cores only has 13.6 million transistors.

This is why GPU's are able to have thousands of "cores" while CPU's dont.

multiple cores is great, but utter useless if developers and engines etc don't or wont utilize more threads or use them better then current .

why im personally interested more in 8 core ryzen 3000 then 16 cores, unless for gaming , but great for video editing and at a cheaper price then thread ripper in theory :D
