I'd say they were more likely to bow to the wads of cash that got chucked their way, the pressure was a side effect.

I'd have to agree with this.
It's far more likely they have complied with nVidia due to financial reasons (whatever they may be) rather than direct company pressure. I'm not saying nVidia turned up with a briefcase full of $$$ and blackmailed them or anything, I just think they have made it more financially lucrative for Ubisoft to make this move.
Well guys we are talking about billions of dollars here and be sure that every company that has the money and the resoucres shall try and get the advantage any way they can.
About a bug that increases pefrormance...c'mon!!! I both like ATI and Nvidia as i have said several times and as most people here i buy products that offer the best performance and features for the money.
