Steak lovers, where do you get your steak from?

Supermarket steak is ok, but you know you’re not getting the best. Want to get some quality sirloin in as I absolutely love the stuff and need it for the protein (doctors orders).

I know you can buy Hawksmoor steak from Ocado but it’s incredibly expensive, £23 for a 400g steak.

I will add, I genuinely have no nearby quality butchers any more.

I buy all our steaks from Tom Hixon, normally buy a large piece of rib eye and fillet and cut it up into steaks, leave out what I want and vacuum pack the rest and freeze it

We get steak (and sausages) from the butcher in the town my in laws live in. The butcher is a miserable old sod but his steaks are excellent.

I've tried getting it online once and it wasn't great. I ordered a picanha from Tom Hixson and it had very little flavour. I should try again though.

Almost always the butcher for me. But if I use a supermarket I prefer Lidl, I have found the flavour of the steak on a like for like cut basis better than the major supermarkets pre-packed equivalent.

Never used online.

M&S do an excellent 'thick cut' variety that I've been consistently impressed by. I like my local butchers a lot and get pretty much all my meat produce from them, but the steaks are a little inconsistent and often not uniformly cut.

My local butcher unfortunately for you! Though I live in the countryside and often pick up some steaks from local farms on the way back from various things.

I'd go to your supermarket butcher section and just get it from there - probably the best bet?

Had one of the best Fillet steaks from a local butcher last week, was about £9.50 ish for 200/220g piece, it seemed huge though nice and chunky! Smooth as butter! Even if I did cook it completely wrong (It took a while as it was a large and thick piece and I cooked it on a medium-high, can't remember exactly how long I cooked it for, but it certainly wasn't the 6 or 7 mins some people say to do, used meat probe and took it off the heat at around 60 to let it rest, but in hindsight I would have preferred it a little rarer than it was.

Will always say local butchers are going to be far, far better than supermarkets in every way other than price.

Can’t beat a good quality local butchers and a bitta ribeye steak. Anything else doesn’t come close.

Oh and sprinkle half an oxo cube over the steak right at the end of cooking before resting it. Nom nom nom :D
