Where do you get your steak from?

good value supermarket beef/steak (Waitrose a few times) has been a minor dividend during covid times with reduced restaurant demand,
obviously that will be a minor victim of the Ukraines situation, even if the likes of usa & others increase grain acreage.

I buy all our steaks from Tom Hixon, normally buy a large piece of rib eye and fillet and cut it up into steaks, leave out what I want and vacuum pack the rest and freeze it
I've always been unsure about freezing good quality steak. Does it not adversely affect it?

We are fortunate to have a great local butcher near us. Quite pricey for the popular cuts, you can spend £15 on a good ribeye if you get them to cut it a bit thick. I always joke they're probably bored with us going in and getting the cheap cuts like shin etc :p

Sounds like the OP needs to investigate some of the online butchers, of which I have no experience..

treated myself to two sirloin steaks from Lidl today -£7 so split them and put them in freezer - Now I know how to cook steaks they will be fine -Max 4 min total in frying pan with dab of butter at end and wrap in foil till chips are ready
Would try the oxo cube but we don't have any.

Usually get steaks and meat from Costco and then freeze. However did a Sainsburys shop recently and tried one their North Highland sirloin steaks and it was excellent will be buying more.

Donald Russell are really good but not cheap (imho)

Puddledub farm, called the buffalo farm now, excellent but not cheap. Their steak pies are lush too, buffalo pies.....mmmmmmm I'm hungry at work now.

Bennets butcher club, we have ordered from here a few times and mostly has been great, especially their larger steaks and joints. We put in a small order recently and I dont know if it had sat too long or they just didn't pack enough ice packs in to keep it cold but it looked like some meat was iffy, they refunded with no argument but that didn't put a steak on my plate that night.

usually local butchers or farm shop (plenty of both nearby) but i've actually found lidl steaks to be cracking value and far superior taste wise to other supermarket ranges. perhaps as they use locally sourced farms for their meat?
