Where does the water go in concrete?

so it becomes the concrete? surely then whenever we lay concrete we are using up water which can never be replaced.. and surely then if we keep laying concrete then maybe one day there will be none left ?!

Somebody inform the Prime Minister!

You were right in saying that some of the water evaporates. However the rest will react with the powders making a very strong 'glue' you can imagine an araldite, mixing the two parts together.

The cement does shrink as it is very similar to the same technology as Polyurethane Resin Flooring. If the substrate is not strong enough or has a good enough bond then when the water evaporates and the 'cement' shrinks it will simply pull it away

Hood god, you love these spam posts. That are well just mind bogolingly stupid.
I think your an attention whore, but have you got any idea how much water there is and how minute amounts we use in comparison. Also water can and is made, For example if you have a gas boiler you make water daily.

you do realise their is lots and lots of ice in space? we will never run out of water we can just go and claim some of the ice in space its the same as many asteroids in space are massive and made out of metals they would be worth a small fortune if you could get one to earth the problem is the cost of getting one rightnow outways the worth of the minerals , one day this will all change

How do they set concrete structures that are under the sea? Without the masses of water not giving the concrete a chance to 'set'?

Serious question ...?

if you mean evaporation from the sea, it is not good practice. sea water has been used in mixes before in other parts of the world (china springs to mind) and the salt eventually corrodes the metal reinforcement in the concrete. RESULT.

considering it produces 1 ton of polution for ever ton of concrete made, i think we will have killed our planet long before we run out of water! :o
