A lot of people however didn't like XP->Vista but are fine with Windows 7 even though in many ways there isn't a huge difference between Vista and 7.
Use classicshell. Its great and free. I never have to see the metro screen ever again. Have it setup so that it logs straight into the desktop. Have disabled the charms bar too.
Unless you have a touch screen or you simply have to have the latest product I don't really see the benefits of Windows 8 over Windows 7. I had it installed on my machine for a while and the only noticeable improvement was the boot time which was impressively fast considering I'm not using an SSD.
Well i have an SSD and can tell you that from pressing the power on button to being able to open a tab in Chrome browser takes 9 seconds![]()
It also shuts down in 3 seconds.
Its also nice being able to create 30Gb system images in under a minute.
It's funny really. My boot times aren't much off that but 9 seconds for me is still too long to start up. I get impatient if my machine takes more than a couple of seconds to resume of standby.
I've managed to give it a longer chance, and while i'm still no fan of the new 'start menu' - as it's just a load of jumbled boxes or my organised and pretty much empty screen - I do find the whole OS to be faster. Start up/shut down seems to be at least twice as fast compared to when I was running on 7.
Still not a fan, but I can live with it as I can still get it to function the way I want*.
*Power down, Start up Mac.![]()
just install start8 and you wont have to see those tiles anymore.

We will all have to get used to the new lay out eventually.

No we just mod it back to how it's supposed to be, productive and efficient, ie Win 7 style. Not the worlds biggest abortion of a desktop UI in history.
