where is the best place to live on the south coast?

Well we're now living in the Tory / Universal Credit paradise we always dreamed of. Can't be that bad though, our homeless don't push trolleys full of junk around like in the US, the ultimate land of the free and parasitic capitalism without restraint.

Very good point. Who asks the sort of question the OP did without being a bit established here beforehand? Long-time lurker, first time personal what-do-I-do-with-my-life/where-should-I-live poster?

Very sorry 'Vexr' and 'rossi'for breaking forum rules, i didn't know i had to be established before i asked a question on a forum. What if i am one of those things you labelled me with? yes i am a first time forumer but isn't this what forums are for? or is there a different forum for this type of question?
I am worried about bringing up my young family in the wrong place and am really happy with the advice i have been given so far and i am a little less anxious about the big move now.

Where's the best place to live on the south coast? Definitely not St Austell, it's full of relocated smack heads doing smack head things and leaving smack head paraphernalia all over the place.
Yep, St. Austell has always been pretty run down. There are nice places like Carlyon Bay, but most of it is pretty rough. It’s always a place I drive through on the way to somewhere nicer… like Camborne. :D

Cornwall is a great place to grow up, at least it was for me.

Truro is nice, but pricey (maybe that’s not an issue for you).

While it is relatively central, it also means you have to drive to get to the coast and the roads can be shocking, especially in summer. In fact, even out of season the main roads are bad now.

I used to commute into Truro from Fowey to get to college (we’ll over 10 years ago) and the rush hour through St. Austell and into Truro was bad. I did the same journey a little while ago out of season and out of rush hour and it felt just as congested as it did back then.

In terms of holiday, there’s no escaping the fact that you’re going to have to travel before you can travel — getting a train or driving to Heathrow or Gatwick you’re looking at 4-5 hours without traffic/delays. We always stayed in a hotel near the airport the night before our flight.

I realise I’m making it sound terrible but it’s really not. I believe the benefits outweigh the negatives and I hope to live down that way again at some point.
They're building a lot of houses in Truro these days. Multiple new estates of 400-1000+ houses each. From the double roundabout at Green Lane and heading down Falmouth road, a new estate of 400+ houses on the right.

In Threemilestone area planning permission granted for 1000+ new homes (actually think it's more like 1,300+). However developers are increasingly reluctant to actually build up there without the council footing some of the bill (they know they've got the council by the balls because central govt want the houses built desperately).

Meanwhile the roads are already showing their age and unsuitability to cope with extra traffic. I dread to think what state Truro is going to be in in the next decade or so, wrt traffic.

The best thing about Truro is that it has the benefits of a small city, whilst being small enough that 10 mins in any direction gets you out into the countryside. But Truro is not the stereotypical Cornish idyll (that being something like a small fishing village). Truro likes to think it's a small version of Bristol or Plymouth or something :p

Coastal towns sound pretty rough so it might have to be one of those smaller quieter villages on the coast full of old farts or Truro/Dorchester, not heard anything bad about those yet:)

Wants low crime rate, you suggest Brighton, does not compute.

Have you seen Brighton lately? I was considering moving there with the other half, but after spending some time there we decided its just not a nice place at the moment, the homeless problem really has gotten out of hand, you'll see at least 5 homeless people smacked out of their heads just walking from the station to the shopping centre.
Thats tge trouble. We only go there in the summer at the seaside. I have no idea of the issues mentioned.
