This might seem like a really dumb question but it's not quite so straightforward as it initially seems.

A friend in the USA who collects currency notes has asked me if I can get a set of mint condition UK banknotes at face value, ie not at an inflated price from a dealer. They don't have to be uncirculated because even if they've been sent to a bank, they count as circulated. He just wants new, mint condition UK banknotes.

I've been looking around and I can't see an easy way to do this. Cashpoints sometimes have mint notes but it's not very common and there's no way of knowing. Plus, you can't get the exact notes you want from a cashpoint.

I've been into a couple of banks, they looked in their cash drawers and none of them had any mint notes. The Bank of England doesn't seem to have a little shop and even looking at some note dealers, they seem to specialise in old notes, they generally don't have current notes unless they're sought after serial numbers.

Where can I get a set of mint UK banknotes, £50, £20, £10 and £5?

Any suggestions? Printing them myself isn't an option ;)

Just ask your supermarket for cashback, then ask them for a nice note because it's for a birthday. I always seem to get crisp and clean notes that way.

A bank can't give you mint notes? lol every time I been to a cash point they are fresh/mint/crisp. Only thing can't do is get £50s from it.
Bank branches don't print notes, they can only give out what they take in or are sent and the two local branches went through all their drawers for me and didn't have any.

Cashpoints are very hit and miss, I've tried the local ones a few times for both £10 and £20 and the notes are clearly not fresh ones. It's a pain because then I have to go back in and pay the money back into my account (I very rarely carry cash).

I can sell you a mint condition fiver -- It was available on the Royal Mint for a fiver - to celebrate the first ever polymer note. It comes in a basic paper sleeve.

Ask somebody you trust on here to assist. I'm fairly sure there's someone can get you them.

Go to your bank and ask them to special order them. It may take a few days. And does your friend want English currency or British currency? Don't forget Scottish and NI notes.

You never know, I might take you up on that if I struggle, thank you. I didn't know the Royal Mint sold notes, I've never seen them on their site, it's normally all coins.

I didn't even think of that, thanks. It's English notes they want.

You can go into the BoE and ask, cash desks are to the right as you go in.
It's not somewhere I ever go near these days, but thanks. If I struggle with a bank ordering some, I'll have to tap up a friend who works in the city.

I'll see if I can spot it over the weekend and you're welcome to it. I bought it because it was a fiver so I lost nothing, but tbh I've gained nothing as I just have a fiver that I don't want to spend that is probably almost definitely still only worth a fiver.

By mint condition, I assume he means not even any folds?

If folds don't matter, I have mint £5, £10 and £20 which I'd be happy to swap with you for same value, assuming you're local.

But if folds do matter, I only have the £10.
