well my old 19" CRT seems to be dying on me goes pitch black abit a white line across the screen for hours it was a quality Mitsubishi Diamond Pro think maybe trinitron tube? not sure anyways

i i cant really afford the dell 24" but im looking for a quality 22" and would like some advice.

my budget is around £200-£250

ive basically been considering the models below.im pretty poor so this screen will be used for linking to a DVD player for blu-ray/hd-dvd watching and gaming on a 8800 GTX. so i need HDCP over the dvi and quality picture with no ghosting. and preferably an 8bit panel for 16.7m colours.1:1 mapping would also be nice

Dell E228WFP 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor £252.61 inc VAT

LG L226WTQ 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver £205.61 inc VAT

Samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black £281.99
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

and two LG screens that are monitor combos for television etc.

LG 22LS4R 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor with TV Tuner - Black £246.74
LG M228WA 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor with TV Tuner - Black £234.99
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

this is a maze to me right now but personally with the samsung panel lottery and the price i dont think i can justify taking the chance on iti have no idea what stock ocuk have right now or if i would even get a numbered panel at all.

i havent really considered the other two LG combo screens much i would have thought they would not be that good for pc gaming as the DELL or the other LG WTQ model.

but im mostly torn between the dell and the LGL226WTQ.the lg seems good the only thing i dont like is the 6 bit TN panel i believe the DELL uses a higher quality 8 bit screen or am i wrong?i havent really heard much buzz about that dell model either but convince me if u can!

or should i go for the combo screen the specs seem really good with the high 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio's but hey thats why ive posted.

so good folks of the ocuk forums can u help me about with this final jigsaw in my gaming/mutlimedia monster pc? :)

None of the 22" screens are 8bit (they're all 6bit TN) and I don't think any of the 22" support 1:1 Mapping either.

If you don't mind going for a 20" instead of 22" go for the Dell 2007WFP it has the same resolution as the 22" but uses an S-IPS panel which has 8bit colour and far superior viewing angles (very useful for watching DVDs like you mentioned) it also supports 1:1 mapping. So basically apart from being 20" instead of 22" it supports everything you want.

I personally just returned the Samsung 226BW and bought the 2007WFP, I'm SO glad I did, I'd never go back to a 22" TN Panel now.

mmm.......difficult choice.

There all good TN panels but I would say the Sammy or LG, both have higher specs than the DELL.

I would personally go for the Sammy if you have the money, it's even nicer when it's on your desk than the picture on OC site.

If your on a budget then it's got to be the LG, same spec as the sammy but a lot cheaper, may not look as nice but worth getting in the long run.

Dell's are good monitors but lower spec and priced in between the two, I used to have the 22" and had not complaints, very nice looking and a good performer, just not as good spec with 5ms etc.

All in all they are all good screens and any of then would be a good choice, depends on what you going to use it for.

I would personally stretch that little bit more and get the Sammy to complete your monster system. It's really not worth skimping on a monitor.

Looks = Sammy
Save Money = LG
Middle Ground = Dell

yea after reading up on the viewing angles now from TN i do tend to sit down low on my chair watching movies :p

the dell seems good to me higher quality panel and 1:1 mapping and inputs for say ps3 720p blue ray movies etc but at only 20" im not too sure personally.

the price is like £260 and the dell and benq 24" now around the £420 mark on offers ><

cant decide weither to save for the 24 or plump up for the 20" i have a 8800gtx but im more interested in having a 1080p screen linking up to a external blue ray player.

deciding on which 24" is a totally diff matter tho as which i wont get into.it more comes down to now for me is 20" widescreen big enough and is 720p good enough compared to 24" gaming and 1080p movies.

oh decisions

if you look around you can get the dell 20" far superior panel
for around £230 delivered am very tempted myself.

I have the 22" dell there and its great, no ghosting in games and you can tilt it which im not sure you can do with all the others so the viewing angles arent that big a problem!

I'm also looking for a new panel, I guess have to stick to 1680x1050 otherwise get a framerate drop in games. Not viewing offside, just for gaming. So even backlight is a must. My Philips does ghost slightly, but only when zipping around. 24" are a bit too expensive atm.

Have you looked at the HP w2207?

I went for that over the Samsung - the colours and detail are marginally better, plus it has a fully adjustable stand and a USB Hub

Dell 2007WFP. Once you've used one you'll never be able to go back to a lower quality panel. Definately go for quality over screen size, especially seeing as they're the same res. The smaller screen size means that the image is slightly sharper. The price is also around that of the 22" screens if you look around.

Is there any particular reason for why the 2007wfp jumped from £249 to £320 over at their own store? It's a good panel certainly but not for that kind of money.

2007WFP, 16ms...is that correct? I think my Philips 20" is 8ms.
The Dell E207WFP 20" Widescreen TFT Monitor 1680x1050 800:1 300cd/m² 5ms 3 Years Warranty is a fair bit cheaper, is it the same one or different?

yeah the dell price on thier homepage is just awful.

squiffy dont bother with 16ms dont think its G2G but it matches almost the other panels and from what ive read there aint no ghosting. this one uses a superior panel to the other models i think.

anyone got any pics of just how big a 20" widescreen is to the 24"?

i cant help but think 19" CRT atm to 20" wise might seem kinda small for movies

if i decide 20" is enough this is my screen to choose now it will be the 2007wfp.

I think the 207 uses a TN panel whereas the 2007 has the other... better one :p The name escapes me atm.
