Which 3D TV?

I'd say the current passive LG's are currently the best. However RealD have patented technology that will essentially make the TV the active part and switch between the left and right eye so you'll get full HD going to each eye yet the glasses you wear will be passive. No idea when it'll be out, I was expecting it to be this year but it doesn't look likely.

While not directly relevant to your dilemma having dealt with Samsung technical support for a plasma last year i'd not wish them on my worst enemy. I'm not sure how good/bad LG are though ?

welcome to the world of trying to pick a tv,once over it was you had the money buy now it takes me months to decide which i want

By that time something new and better comes out.

I've heard good things about the Panny TX-P42GT30 and am thinking about picking one up myself.

Ordered a LG 47 LW650T TV for £1144! Very happy with the price considering it's their top model. Having some mates round on Thursday so the 7 pairs of glasses will be handy. Cannot wait!

Just a few questions though:

Can this TV connect to my wireless home network and access the media files I have on my Windows 7 computer just like a regular laptop would?

Can I connect my 2TB external HDD to the TV via USB 2.0 and access/view video files that way?

Would buying a USB flash drive and transferring films/tv shows I want to watch to it, then connecting it to the TV be the best way? and would these files from the flash drive be upscaled to 1080p aswell as being converted to 3D?

Will this TV literally convert any video source to 3D from the menu options?

To get a 3D conversion from an external video source (xbox, ps3, wii, laptop, flash drive, dvd, blu ray) does the connection between the devices have to have a 1.4 HDMI cable or will the TV convert it to 3D no matter how it's connected to the TV?

Sorry for the amount of questions but I need to know this so I can get everything sorted for when it arrives on Wednesday!

Cheers for the help everyone :p

For the record I've tried both the Samsung UE40D6530 and the Panasonic TX42GT30. I originally purchased the Samsung to replace an aging 37" Panasonic plasma in the lounge. Initial impressions were great. Amazing vibrant picture and beatiful design... the downside...it LCD panel and LED backlighting meant clouding and uneven panel lighting (especially during evening viewing). Also the 3D performance wasnt great. It was replaced by the GT30 which I collected today... overall a much nicer set... Great deep blacks, fantastic contrast ratio, and great picture. Doesnt feel quite as 'trendy' as the Sammy and the Samsung Smart hub experience was nicer but overall I'll give a +1 to plasma for overall picture quality (and sound ).

Both these sets have been tested by the gurus at hdvtest

I got the panny for £1059 with 2 pairs of 3D Glasses, the BD110 3D blu ray and two lots of free BluRays (Avatar 3D + 3 others in the first offer and Star Wars 4,5,6 in the second - lucky for me these offers overlap till the 5th of Sept! Bonus!) plus a 5 yr warranty. Done with a deal at my local Panasonic Franchise.

If you want a good price on the Sammy try Park Cameras. They're doing it for £799 incl 2 pairs of glasses, some 3D Blu Rays and Skype Cam addon. That's the cheapest I've seen it anywhere.

Hope that helps.

Chees.

Don't touch the Samsung C8000 they are riddled with problems and they were soon withdrawn from most stores. Cutting a long story short after the 3rd repair and 2nd replacement of my C8000 in a 6 month period Samsung swapped it for me to their new D8000 range.

I love the D8000 so far it has been a beautiful TV, picture quality is superb and the set itself it pretty damn sexy too!!

Imo I would say get a panny 3d plasma. I Got a vt30 and been watching quite a few films in 3d over the last couple of weeks. I didn't buy the tv for its 3d but since I found I can play movies on usb I have to say I'm pretty blown away by its 3d and I am fussy. I got rid of Nvidia 3d monitor and glasses because of the crosstalk/flicker and headaches it gave me, my bro in law also has the top end samsung led ue55d8000 tv and I personally think its got rubbish picture and again not very good at 3d plenty of crosstalk again - really bad in a dark room, no competition when compared to the vt30 which I can happily watch a movie on anyways.
