I'm thinking about going for the Palit Sonic Platinum 460 but is it worth is £210 price tag over the other manufacturers?

Thanks in advance.

WARNING: Stay Away from Palit Sonic Platinum gtx 460 everybody who bought it at lanuch RMA'd there is "Official RMA'd my GTX 460" thread.

The cheeky palit sent out a different version to the reviewers than ran cooler and quitter.

The retail one, the real one, does not have VRAM heatsink sky rocketing the temperatures and therefore increasing noise from the fan as it has to keep up. They released new bios that you might have to flash to but there high temps are still there.

again stay away from palit 460

Wait for gigabyte 460, I heard its good and be sure to get 1gb version as it costs a little more but offers great increase in performance.

There was also a recall on the gigabyte mate.

Gainward are about the best build quality around, Palit try but never get close ;)

Giga or MSI, no question.

Wouldn't touch any of the others.

Though the ECS Black looks like it's going to be a beast, but not out yet.

If your gonna go buying the MSI (Especially with OcUK) then you might as well get a 5850 for the same price. All of OcUK's prices are £10-15 off and add the fact that some people will have to pay for delivery while other e-tailers do some form of free delivery your looking at spending £20-25 more for the same product. The only thing keeping OcUK competitive atm is their special offer Palit GeForce GTX 460 Sonic.

I think there is nothing wrong with Palit's. My 8800GT is palit and its a beast, I've only needed to upgrade my graphics card because of 3D, but even then it could cope with 3D (Nvidia suggest at least a 9800, lol)
I wouldn't go for the platinum version because it's just overclocked cards that you pay more for. Go for the Palit GTX 460 2GB, which is on today only as £187.99!!

Haven't heard anything about a Giga recall at all...

Palit has a whiny fan (even with the bios update), its not that it's particularly loud (which it was before bios update), it's that the pitch of the fan motor is so annoying.

The MSI and Giga don't have any fan motor noise at all. All you hear is air moving (if that).

Thats strange because my 8800GT came with an amazing fan and heatsink, that outperformed any other 8800GT, which ran quite hot.

You can always get an aftermarket cooler, I put an accelero S2 on my 8800GT and its pretty good!

Thing is i can't see any graphics cooler for the GTX 460, there are some for 465,470 and 480 though!

Think I saw someone say they were gonna RMA two Gigabytes because they were running hot. Made sense considering their design, unless you can space them out.

Its like they heard you and put the price down!! get in there quick!!!
haha. That's still only three 460's at a good price. Need the rest to come down and for OcUK to get the Giga's in. ;P

Ah, that was because they were in SLI, and how his mobo was the cards were right next to each other, you'd get the same problem with any cards in SLI.

Well IMO, the MSI and Gigabyte coolers can be considered "aftermarket" coolers.

Personally I can only speak for the Gigabyte cooler, as I have one, and it is totally silent up to 60% speed (which it never reaches in normal, game-play usage).

And even after that, all you hear is a gentle swoosh of air, not a whine (like my old 8800GT fan).
