Which 780ti has the lowest fan noise when gaming?

Basically I am looking to upgrade to a 780ti but before I take the plunge I wanted to ask about fan noise.

My gaming PC is in the bedroom and sometimes I game at night while the Mrs is sleeping. I currently have a 7970 with the Arctic cooling Accelero Xtreme after market cooler which is pretty much dead on silent and performance is good at 1440p with a few options turned off (MSAA) but I think it's time to move up in the graphics card world and just go all in for a 780ti.

I don't want to crossfire as I had numerous problems in the past with my previous setup and just want to keep it to a single card.

I done a little research and it seems that the MSI 780ti Gaming Edition and the Gigabyte 780ti Windforce is pretty low on fan noise while gaming.

Can anyone with these cards confirm this?

Any other ones I should consider?

I don't really want to watercool as it would mean eating away at the £550 budget I got saved for the 780ti in order to buy the parts etc.

Thanks in advance for the help

Wow gaming in same room your wife is sleeping would say you need a man cave m8.

Even the screen flashing never mind noise must light up the room and you cursing when you get killed etc. lol.

I would stick 2 Diazepam in her late night coco, she will sleep through anything. :p

I can only say the Ref Cooler is quiet and better if you set a good Fan Curve. :)

The Windforce 3 cooler is very very quiet and if its not quiet enough on stock fan profile as above you can tweak it further - the heatsink is rated for 450watt of heat so theres a fair temp margin to play with before your getting back to reference cooling temps if you bias for lower fan speeds at the expense of higher temps.

EDIT: RE watercooling - on my setup the pump noise is far louder than the GPU fan on my 780.

EDIT2: This does depend a bit on having reasonable case cooling or you will just hit the heatsink saturation and the fan speeds up.

Thanks for the replies, Well yeah my man cave is currently my home cinema room meaning that the PC is in the bedroom due to the fact that the other "spare rooms" are kept spare for guests and the fact that my mrs likes to browse (clothes shopping lol) with the PC in the bedroom before she goes to bed.

The windforce cooler sounds like it could be the one for me. Any ideas on whether performance is any good compared to say the EVGA cards?

With the stock cooler there are 3 interdependent parameters- noise, fan rpm and temperatures. You can't have all 3 to your liking and you should always set 2 that you want at the expense of the 3rd. Some coolers are noisier at the same rpm than others due to a lot of factors.

So in your case you need to see if noise and temperature are the important ones and go from there. The MSI TFV cooler seems to be a good compromise here.

Main advantage the comparable EVGA cards have is they have a higher chance of being a better overclocker but not sure thats useful if your trying to stay quiet. Out the box performance will be very similiar.

I am not really that fussed on temps as long as they within the "normal" range.
As long as it runs all day long at a low noise I will be happy.

It's not a 'Ti', but I've been very happy with my MSI gaming 780. Flat out in a game my NH-D14 @ 900RPM cooling my CPU is still one of the loudest things in my case. The GPU noise is exceptionally low.

That's only with binned cards which is only with the Classifieds- regular and KPE. The reference/SC cards are no different than any other non-binned 780 Ti out there.

Interesting, in all honesty I don't really care about overclocking it just as long as I can run games at very high/ultra settings at 1440p with 60-80fps.

So is the windforce 3 cooler the quietest one?

Honestly if you're after quiet just put it on water. Seriously...

One of the best things I ever did. Mrs always used to randomly pipe up saying my 3 Ti's were loud, and she's right they were...It's what made me take the plunge initially and go fully watercooled. Plus it's always nice to see these temps under load :p

I don't really consider the reference/SC cards comparable :P

Really...?

I own a wf 780 and a twin frozr cooled gtx 650ti. Both coolers are exceptionally quiet under load. If buying either brand in a 780ti id go for whatever is cheapest at the time of purchasing.

I have a windforce 780. Its pretty quiet under load, not sure its OK to have running when someone is sleeping though? The 780 ti has a more aggressive fan curve so is actually louder than a 780 even with the same cooler. Remember even if a gigabyte 780 is too loud, you can alway use an all in one cooler on it with a custom fan curve to quieten it down.

This may help if you can compare a 780 with a card she is comfortable with.
