Which 7970 ?

I was a huge sapphire fanboy, great cards,I only went msi because of the price and 3 year warranty, gigabyte cards have the best coolers but the his isn't bad either, its a hard choice

Yeah, the Gigabyte will have a 3 year warranty and is Uk based afaik. I was just thinking why people say don't go for the Ghz version as you can clock the base version to those speeds.
Clearly these are voltage locked so running at the speeds of the Ghz version are going to cause more heat etc (due to the locked voltage) for the sake of £40?

No it will match and probably clock higher than the ghz version,it'll be running at 1.25v no matter how high or low you oc it,anymore then 1.25v wouldn't be stable for 24/7gaming anyway unless your watercooled ect

Well its in and runs my games great. Ultra settings, great fps. Fan settings keep the temps around 50° after a couple of hours of BF3. My Sapphire 6870 was around the same temps tbh, anyway thats off to the bay :)

Long story short I ended up with 2 x HIS 7970's and there are options to change the voltage in the Sapphire Trixx program. I haven't changed it but I can move the numbers up and down, will post a screenie tomorrow when I get online. Managed to run both cards at 1100 (925 stock) and 1500 (1375 stock) with no extra voltage. Ran 3 lots of 3D mark and 3 lots of Heaven. Temps were only a few more than my normal gaming temps.
