there are a lot of 970's at around the £260 level at the moment - is there one thats better than the others or are they all much of a muchness?

difficult to chose!!

cheers

one with 4gb TEE HEEE

serious face

I go by brand with gpu and ASUS or EVGA have the best reps from my experience RMA wise.

The cheapest of the "good ones", the Windforce.

For £5 more than the EVGA you can buy the G1 Gaming which is a beast of a cooler.

Pointless card for the cooler, IMO, my Windforce runs at 54c max out of the box and 62c max at my 24/7 overclock, which is 1500/1900.

For the aesthetics of the Backplate and LED logo maybe.

Metal vs plastic shroud? adds a bit of "quality" to the card.

True the Windforce shroud does have a very cheap feel to it.

Added a "?" as it wasn't 100% sure about if the Windforce shroud was plastic, never seen one in the flesh.

I do agree though, the Windforce card/cooler is as good as you need for this core.

It is, its cheap. thin cheap plastic, but it still has the fancy whisper quiet fans.
Its a very good card full stop, IMO one of the best 970's, it clocks as high as any of the best clocking cards while remaining cool and quiet, 1604/2000 is the highest i had out of mine for benching and thats still on stock volts, i can't see any G1 or anyother 970 better that much.

If you just want an inexpensive but capable 970 its very much one to consider.

goddamn it! so many choices.
i think i'll go for the windforce - good cooling, cheaper, and i'll put the money towards a monitor which i'm also getting.
